 Performance update after mods
-3 blade GTR prop. -Alumitech 18 foot hull stepped chine which is 48 inch at bottom and 60 inch at the step. -9 gallons of gas -35 GTR with mikuni, delta heads, mm exhaust
Ran it with me and the dog and got 30.5 in shallow water.
Ran it with me, wife, dog, full yeti soft side 30 and got 29.4 in shallow water.
3970rpms seems to be the sweet spot. Any higher and the prop is too high and I lose speed.
Still have some tuning to do, but need to really read up on the manual first. - exhaust backfires and shoots blue flames if I rev it up out of gear and let off throttle. - when I put it in gear and hammer the throttle it pops through the carb/filter. I have to ease into the throttle then stab it to avoid carb backfire. - when running I see an occasional drip of gas out of the overflow tube. The discoloration of the frame, where fuel has been running down, clued me in to look for it.
Then of course other things have decided to rear their head. - Brake/hydraulic smelling fluid is leaking from somewhere near the caliper. - Trim is slow and makes noise. I then noticed fluid is leaking from the trim housing.

 Re: Performance update after mods
Don't you just love a mud motor, always something to keep you busy. Those are good speeds. Sounds like you just need to adjust your float height a little to stop the drip and just do a little fine tuning. Deadbird had some pretty good pictures in another post showing how to adjust the accelerator pump.

Yeah I'm trying to locate that thread and triple read the Mikuni tuning manual.
Not sure what what to do about my trim and reverse fluid leaking issues.

 Re: Performance update after mods
You got the old square trim or the new trim?

The trim unit looks like a small rectangular box.1451263427613.jpg

 Re: Performance update after mods
That is a CMC jackplate unit that GT originally used. It can be rebuilt

 Re: Performance update after mods
Sweet... Is it something that the mechanically inclined can do or does it need to go to CMC?

 Re: Performance update after mods
Thanks Will I was gonna post the link if he said it was the old trim. Mine has been rebuilt for almost a year with no problems yet(knock on wood). One thing I remember was that the biggest oring was really hard to get off and on. And use a non detergent 30 weight oil to refill. Take it slow taking it apart and lay everything out so you can remember where it goes. Lay off the beer till you get done or it will probably leak.[FACE WITH STUCK-OUT TONGUE AND WINKING EYE]
