I liked it...pretty slick. Dual options for trim switch on a floating handle....great innovation for PD.

I don't have a picture but they have a pivot point on it, it is directly in the middle so it is easily drives able on either side, trim switch on the front handle and side. That sum bitch won't ever break. Heavy duty

It also is adjustable to accommodate different height (or arm length) drivers.

Bare with me here, I never been around a pro drive. The F/R switch is the auto rotator of the lower unit? I thought it may have electric reverse with FPR.

I know that it seems like over kill, but when are they coming up with electric reverse and also have FPR, that would be good for just general use, and then be good for when FPR is needed.

Post Re: Prodrive Handle
I own a PD and I think that is not a very good design.

1) The handle is not mounted to the frame. These things take a ridicules amount of abuse and yet the handle is mounted to the block of the engine (at least from the pic I seen). That means more abuse on an already shitty block design. That also means no engine changes.

2) Can the handle be adjusted side to side, on a 48" wide or narrower hull, that handle directly inline with the engine will hinder some hulls that are narrow and have side seats.

Great observation about it being mounted to the Briggs and not the frame. [FLUSHED FACE]

Why would the oh so great pd attach something else to the engine? These engines are junk, that's just asking to make the cover crack.

Actually, prestons design of a floating handle keeps it bolted to the frame, not the block. Shit, how many case leaks do you think there gonna nave now. I'm sure it was thought out, but IMO, they regressed with this addition.

Talked with PD about the mounting location. As mentioned, it was well thought out and additionally discussed with Briggs.

The justification for center mount was because all tiller outboards we're going this direction. They are just keeping it in that direction. Probably to keep it comparable for anybody coming from a tiller outboard to tiller MM?

As for the case gasket issues, they believe the forces applied through the tiller to the block will be very negligible citing how longtails frames are bolted directly to the blocks in a similar manner. I can understand the conceptual idea of that argument. Ultimately, the practical aspect is yet to be seen. As most of us have already concluded, the case gasket issue is a Briggs issue....it will be there no matter what brand MM you're running or how it's mounted to a frame.

The idea of an adjustable tiller height is pretty sweet. I drove an HDR a lot last season in the woods and I was having to stoop down all the time to hold on to the tiller. And at 5'10", I can't see how it would be comfortable at all to a person over 6' tall.

Briggs will increase the horsepower on the 37 block and they will still be able to mount the handle the same way. I like this new handle

I'd still prefer it on the side, can't tell you how many hours I drove while standing in the middle of the boat, leaning against poling platform scouting or putting along while others shot fish. I'm all for a PD but that just doesn't look good to me. Only good thing going is the controls aren't mounted on the motor plate and they look closer to the drivers actual driving hand. If they had one on the side that would pivot up and down, trim on the end of the handle and put the bump button right behind the handle where you can bump it and steer with the same hand on the grip would be great. Bowfishing, my hand stayed on the box to bump it and steer it from there, wore the damn paint off the box. I suppose you can still use the square tubing as a handle, would rather see something a little different though.

They should turn the motor around 180*, have a fresh cool air to the intake and run the exhaust down and around to the back allowing longer primaries.
