I have a grumman ultra 1648 mod v. I believe it is a .080 hull. I am possibly going to get a 2012 gtr 23hp. Is this a dumb setup? I am not looking to be the fastest thing on the water but I want to get along alright. My boat also has a short transom and was considering having a hunt deck added to it. I know that isn't how they are originally made. But could it be done and be ok? I am just finishing up college so I am not looking to sell my rig and start completely over.

Skip the hunt deck put the 23 on it. Hunt you and one more out of it and you will be fine, you will see 17 to 23 with with a load and wish you had a big block.

What's the price difference between the 23 and 35? Seems to be plenty of people around here running 35s on 1648 riveted boats. Not optimal but at least you could already have the 35 when you're able to get a true mud hull.

You're talking $1500 difference in the two if bought new. You'd lose that amount if you stuck the 25 on your boat and ran it once and turned around sold it.
I would say look for a used 35
