A good friend of mine just had his done a few months back he said the worst was the first 8 weeks he couldnt do shit couldnt hardly get up to go to the bathroom without help. He said after that its not to bad its been about 4 months now and he has been off the crutches for about a month and walking around great. i think it all depends how active you are and how musch you work at it to get your strenght in that knee back

Football players have that surgery all the time. Usually, they come buy a boat from Uncle J with their extra time off.

Wish you the Best Brother...

Earl33,

My dad had that done way back in the early 70's when he played at La. Tech. Things have come a long way since then. I wish you the best of luck. And when you come down to get that boat from Uncle J, we'll fix you up with some of that "syrup" and you'll forget all about the ole knee.

For real tho, good luck!

Post Re: Anterior Cruciate Ligament
First hand experience here. Had mine replaced with a cadaver ligament. It friggin sux. I don't wish it on my worst enemy, and I feel for ya, brotha. The day I left the hospital I was fine, of course I was still on the juice (gotta love the morphine). Woke up the next mornin and prayed somebody would kill me to put me outta my misery. Finally started to listen to the wife and ate some vicoden every 4-6 hrs. After about the 2nd day, I wasn't hurtin too bad, but had cabin fever. In a stroke of genius (not), I decided I was goin walkin to start my rehab early. DO NOT DO THAT!!!!! 3 days later, when I could move again, I realized if you do EXACTLY what the dr says, you'll be better off. It was a looooong first couple months, as I could only sleep in my recliner. Sounds good now, try it for 6 weeks straight and you'll hate your favorite chair. Phys therapy was the highlight of my day 3x a week. Hurt like a bitch, but no pain-no gain truly applies here. In therapy, when doin the stretches, push yourself as far as ya can, and then go a lil more. Trust me, it'll be well worth it after 2-3 months. Worst part to all of it is, no matter what you here, it will NEVER be the same. On the up side, you're gonna be a damn good weather man, as you'll feel it when the weather changes.

I hate that it's all bad news, but I sure wish I'd known the truth goin in, so I'd know what to expect. Everybody kept goin on about how it was no big deal, people have it done all the time, etc, etc, etc. The people who tell you that are either liars or have not experienced it for themselves. The very most important thing to remember is that your wife is tryin to help you, quit bein an ass towards her. She didn't do this to you. I wish you luck and a speedy recovery. Office workers can get back a lil sooner than a physically demanding job. Let me know if ya got any questions, I'll do what I can to help.

I didn't even know they still did it that way. Just curious, but why's he sayin the old way's better for a firefighter/emt? I work on the railroad, switching cars in the yard, not just sittin on my duff ridin, and my dr recommended the cadaver. Not sayin mine's better than yours, just wonderin why he said it would be better? I work with a guy who had it done that way, but he had his done 10+ yrs ago. We were both off for about the same length, but it just seems like since you're havin 2 surgeries it would take longer to recover. I don't know.....good luck with everything.

Post Re: Anterior Cruciate Ligament
With my surgery they took a center cut of the tendon going from my knee cap to my lower leg, and used that to replace the torn ACL.
The only problem I had with this{before I retore it}was kneeling on that knee. To this day, it is still painful, for years I could`nt kneel on that knee
[AT ALL ]:
Good luck! And take the PT VERY SERIOUSLY :!:
