MB 45 Mag strange clutch issue
I have a 2010 mud buddy 45 mag with about 180 hours. I was on the river yesterday and ran for about 30 minutes to the duck hole no problems. Finished hunting and start to head back to the ramp. About 5 minutes in to the ride the clutch disengages itself. This happened multiple times at WOT. I try putting along at 2,000 rpm and the clutch will stay engaged for anywhere from 5-10 minutes then will disengage. Try WOT a couple more times and clutch disengages after about 10 seconds. I limp back to the ramp at 2,000 rpm with the clutch disengaging intermittently. While on the water I opened up the football to check connection at the clutch switch and everything seemed fine. Could the switch be going bad or does this sound like a bad clutch? Any other suggestions? Thanks.

Sounds like wiring. Inspect wiring to clutch, might even pull clutch cover to inspect the wiring where it goes through the frame.

Check switch, had 2 go bad on a GTR, if that switch ain't 30 amp rated, replace it with one that is. An electrical coil engages the clutch, a coil is nothing more than a piece of wire, in other words almost like a short. Yes it will heat up any bad or questionable connections.

Check the clutch mounting bolt.

Sounds like a short in the wire harness some where. Since you checked the football area, pull cover and check inside the belt box and see if a wire hasn't been rubbed bare. Also check closer in the football. Those wires are stuffed in there pretty tight.

Re: MB 45 Mag strange clutch issue
Talked to Boat Dr. and got a new switch and relay headed my way. I'll also pull the cover and check the wiring to the clutch. Hopefully one of these things fixes the issue. Thanks.
