most desirable year of PD in terms of reliability/performce
I'm looking into buying a used 36PD and was curious as to what yall feel was the best year/configuration would be given the various generations of lower ends, changes with Briggs powerhead, electric vs. hydraulic reverse, etc. IE: if you were to go back and buy a used carbureted PD what year/generation would you be looking for if reliability and not getting stuck were your main concerns?

If I were to do it again I would avoid the gen 3 lower unless you run alot of veg. Seems like the only folks who cared for the gen 3 gearing liked it for heavy vegetation.

I like a gen 2 best besides the fact that the shafts snap like twigs and the props are hard to take off.

2007 gen 2 oil filled lower, which I believe was the fastest gear ratio lower. Mine still runs like a top, although different powerhead.

The Pro Drive frame itself id pretty darn reliable from Gen2 to current. Gen 3 is sloe from large 2:1 ratio. I know Tbubba has a Gen 4 EFI briggs for sale with headwork installed. Good motor right there.
