First Walleye
My daughter and I decided to bust brush again and get down to Richland Creek. After catching that smallmouth, she wanted more of them.
Today we got no smallies. Between us both we caught about seven little largemouth and she got a stripped bass that was about a pound and a half.
Right when we were about to leave, I hooked into this little walleye. They do not fight very well, but dog gone are they good to eat.
Most of all my fishing has been done in south Georgia and Alabama. I never really fished where they had walleye . I have always thought of them as a fish up in Minnesota and Michigan and such. I guess north Arkansas has a pretty good stash of them in Beaver lake. Once I get my boat, I may actually learn how to fish for them. I would like to smoke a bunch of them and put them up in the freezer.

Re: First Walleye
Congrats on the walleye!!! That's about all I'll fish for up here. They can be a really finniky fish to catch. Around us the river and the weather have to be just right it seems like. On the river where I fish there isn't a ton of structure for them except downed trees and small current breaks but we get a few nice ones every now and then.

Re: First Walleye
Where is "up here"?
I know folks at Beaver Lake and Bull Shoals spear fish walleye. I highly doubt they are getting any that big though.

Re: First Walleye
Arkansas produces some mighty big walleyes. A few years back experts were predicting the next world record would come from the razorback state.

Re: First Walleye
Just showed this thread to my wife. She suggested I delete my picture and run.
I guess I cracked the code on getting more northern boys to post. Imagine what will happen if I post a 12 inch northern pike. Heck, it might start a civil war.
Legal limit on Beaver Lake is 18 inches. I doubt there are many that big in the little creek I fish. Other than occasional bucket of cats we generally throw everything back as soon as we catch it.
Those are some mighty impress fish.

Re: First Walleye
Dog gone, how many times can a man get punked on his own thread?
Once I get my boat I want to actually go fish on Beaver Lake for Walleye.
The only two I have seen here were caught while bass fishing.
Those are some very impressive fish.

Re: First Walleye
Ranger, if you want to ice fish you just let us know. It's real easy to get a variety of fishing lined up for a long weekend.

Re: First Walleye
Took a walleye trip to lake Erie this year. I already booked for next year. Our best day for the week was 10 fish over 28" to round out our limit. It's an awesome fishery if you got the boat to handle big water.
