It wasn't the welds. He would own it if it was. .IMG_2740.jpg

Re: Building my own boat advice
Okay, but if the aluminum actually tore, then the boat was hugely lacking in structural integrity.

My floor is welded....and just assuming it's still holding together. I'll let y'all know when I pressure wash all the hydroturf out of it! LOL

Re: Building my own boat advice
I did 1/2 inch holes welded on 6 inch spacing, and have already started going back and riveting sections because on hot days it makes noise when I walk on it. If you wanted it to be super stiff you could glue and rivet. That's how we did some racecar stuff that needed to be real strong.

Re: Building my own boat advice
If your going to weld the floor in, minimum 3/4" hole saw and run them on 12" centers. Done a ton of them this way and have never had a problem.
Would be a lot easier if you could get away with just using a 1/2" drill bit, but as North La said, most everybody I know that has tried that route has run into problems.

Re: Building my own boat advice
Does this look like enough bracing in the floor??? I'm wanting to try and weld the floor to the sides and then just rivet it to the longitudinal braces??

Re: Building my own boat advice
I'd do a brace across the top of the longitudinal runners near the back and one in the front where your deck starts.

Re: Building my own boat advice
Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but I think you would want a doubler on any cross braces that connects to the hull, like this. I do not know why it is done, but I suspect it helps prevent cracks.

That brace looks good and then like north la hunter said, do one near the transom too.

Re: Building my own boat advice
I just cant stand the thought of having a external brace right there in the way in the back. I'm probably going to skip it. Sounds like a good idea though

Re: Building my own boat advice
You should be able to brace the rear so that it's not in your way. Take a look at some of the other open layout boats on this forum. If you were gonna do a hunt deck like mine it would completely be out of the way.

Re: Building my own boat advice
We took it out for first time Thursday. Only getting 3350-3400 rpm 26mph Mudbuddy is sending another prop and said I might need to change a gear to? If anybody's interested in buying my boat make offer and post your phone number here and I'll call you if it's high enough.[/img]

Re: Building my own boat advice
lol why are you selling it already? You'd see better rpms and speed with a 2 blade prop. That looks like a big 3 blade prop to me

Re: Building my own boat advice
yeah, that speed at those rpms don't exactly seem right either. 26 mph is typically a 3800+ rpm thing. What pitch is that prop? That's good speed for 3400 rpms.
