pulled the trigger on a hoss prodigy combo
I have not posted much on here just a lot of surfing and asking questions the last few years about the last two go devils that I have had. I've had my heart set on having a custom hull built that is bigger that can haul the mail and is still enjoyable to run on the off season when I'm fishing and taking the old lady out. Don't get me wrong I've had a lot of fun and spilled a lot of blood with my 23 gdsd and its never left me stranded. But.... I'm greedy or lazy one of the too haha. Plus I live right on the water and I'm out running a lot. No reverse when red fishing and not being able to haul a load well gets old. I talked on the phone with Andy at the Boat Doctor for hours about what I am wanting out of a boat and what type of areas ill be running. I highly recommend Andy at Boat Doctor to anybody. I am still waiting on my rig to be completed but he is a great guy very honest and helpful. I ended up going with the HOSS 75 on an 1860 prodigy CC. Once Prodigy Builds the boat The Boat Dr is going to rig everything out and I will be sure to put up a good review and put her to the test.

I road in an 1860 with a Hoss, it will exceed your expectations guaranteed. The Hammer prop is the ticket. A little slower on the top end but has great home shot and carries a load better

Re: pulled the trigger on a hoss prodigy combo
I saw the video of the 1860 running 41 it looks pretty impressive. But honestly I have no need to go the fast I just want be able to jump when I put the fuel to it. I'm sure the hammer is the prop ill be going with, I know it all depends on what terrain your running but do you know the average run time for a hammer prop? I'm just trying to decide if I should order a spare to be on the safe side for season especially since I make a few out of state trips.

A hammer will hands down take abuse better than any prop on the market.

Re: pulled the trigger on a hoss prodigy combo
Thanks guys, the hammer it is then. I run some sand in a couple of the areas I like to hunt but a lot of the marsh close to where I live on Bastrop Bayou is pretty soft. Really I run into most of the hard bottom stuff when I make out of state trips. Once one is worn is there someone I can send it to for reworking that y'all recommend?

Re: pulled the trigger on a hoss prodigy combo
Question: If the Hoss 75 is really putting out 75 hp, shouldn't it turn a larger diameter prop with same pitch(get more push from larger surface area) or a three blade with Hammer like characteristics blades?

Re: pulled the trigger on a hoss prodigy combo
Depends on gearing, CC. I think it's geared a bit lower (spinning props slower with more torque) to take advantage of the extra power without spinning props to the moon or needing a prop to lug it down some.

Re: pulled the trigger on a hoss prodigy combo
"HAMMER" 12.75 X 11 3/4 - 35 GTR CDI(Big Block (CDI Marine) Stage 1 Black Death Performance System) consistant speed with 3 adults 29-30mph 4400rpm.
So what effect on a Hoss 75 hp if you had a hammer with a 13.5-14" diameter with 11 3/4-12 or even 13p?
I ask this because going from a 115hp 4s to a 150hp 4s outboard, bigger prop with higher pitch and a hell of a lot more speed!

pulled the trigger on a hoss prodigy combo
I'll be ready to see a review on this set up. I ordered a timber creek 1860 cc with the hoss a month ago. What's your turn around time on the whole set up?

Re: pulled the trigger on a hoss prodigy combo
I'm about 2 weeks out from pulling the trigger on a similar setup. Them Prodigys ain't cheap! I'd be interested to hear your feedback regarding the whole process- time it took, happy with the ride, expectations vs final product etc. For what they want you should be able to drive it home and park it in your driveway. But you get what you pay so I'd be interested to hear if they're worth it.

Count me in as another one who is anxiously awaiting the reviews on this motor and set-up. Please keep us updated when you get the boat and how it performs.

Re: pulled the trigger on a hoss prodigy combo
Maybe Boss bring the Hoss 75 and them Freedom Mudmotors show up to give us all a good show!! Nope, that would be like asking the Democrats to actually do something for the tax paying American citizen and stop supporting illegal invaders.

Re: pulled the trigger on a hoss prodigy combo
I would think Boss will bring a Hoss. Weren't they there last year with the Boss motors?[/quote]
WC was running one last year.

Re: pulled the trigger on a hoss prodigy combo
Sorry guys been busy with work and hunting season. Ill put up a review soon. The boat is awesome though and is up to my expectations on performance. I've put 25 hours on it so far. Boat Dr and Prodigy did a heck of a job. I still have not ran the 3 blade merc prop that Andy sent me to try, I need to for sure though after talking to the guys at BOSS they said I should see 4-6 mph difference and a smoother ride. but with the hammer loaded (4 guys, 8 dozen decoys, ice chest, gear, dog) running around 28-30 and jumps up on plane with no issues right quick and in a hurry. Unloaded with 3 guys running 29-33. haven't even clocked it solo yet. I did have a hiccup with the motor 18 hours in, BOSS made it right and quickly at that. It started knocking on me on one of my trips up north. I called they said bring it in. They replaced the whole lower unit no questions asked. They said it was probably a faulty gear and that they had only seen something similar to this with a couple of motors that had clearly hit something extremely hard. ill try to post pictures soon with a full review. IF you look on the Boat Dr's FB he has some good pics of it.

Re: pulled the trigger on a hoss prodigy combo
I used Andy, The Boat Dr near NOLA. No I didn't hit anything hard I jumped it up in next to no water quite a few times and bumped a little shell which I told them. I think there's a lot more of them out there than people on this site realize since its a little biased. Andy said he had already done quite a few HOSS set ups and that BOSS had been loaded with orders which I believe when I saw how many were strapped up to be sent out. I asked the same question when I picked it back up about hitting things and how that's the point of the motor. They were not talking about HOSS but BOSS motors in general and they said the few they saw had hit something so hard that the skeg was folded over.

Re: pulled the trigger on a hoss prodigy combo
Hmmmmm!!!!! The tried and true - gears in lower unit not obstruction friendly!! I run Caddo Lake and Lake O' Pines, these 2 created the stump infested waters, if a Boss/Hoss can't take a 20mph stump or cypress knee impact, I might could get 1 year out of it!! Got a 2011 35GTR, its on its 2nd boat, broke a big blade, wore down 2 other different props, been wielded on to fix some frame cracks once, exhaust (BPS Q) been wielded twice, jumped numerous trees and stumps, only thing I would do different is an electric reverse!!!!
