Post Florida opener
Good luck tomorrow guys and be safe. I have seen at least one boat for every duck on Lake O. It might be the most crowded with boats I have ever seen it.

I didn't see enough to make me want to battle the crowd this morning. I took my dog to Quail Creek and pick up pheasants and pigeons instead.

I know of several young guys that spent the night out in the marsh and they did pretty good.

I did take my son this evening. Saw about 50 total flying really high. Had one come to the decoys and Kyle shot it. At the ramp it was the same story. A few boats had 1 or 2 ducks and a bunch had zero.

Brian:

I shot solo on Saturday AM and was home cooking breakfast at 0820. Great shoot, I was pleasantly surprised. I limited at 715 and that was right when they really started working good. Very encouraging. My other buddy shot a different area and killed a two-man limit.

I had the exact same setup on Sunday AM, except there was no wind at all and it was maybe 4-5 degrees warmer. I shot three times at killed three birds and shut it down at 830. My buddy didn't fire his gun in the area he hunted the day before.

I've never seen such a dropoff from Day 1 to Day 2; very concerning. Lots of water, lots of places for birds to go "off campus", and not much hydrilla exposed at all for them to eat. I think that as birds come into town they will be on the lake for a couple of days and be gone.

Yep. Went yesterday morning and pulled the trigger once. That one was a bit too far outside the decoys for the 28 gauge. Fog did not lift until 10:30.

How are the crowds this year? As bad as I’d assume?

That sucks. I figured the crowds would be fading away by now.

Four hunts and still only 2 shots fired. Only hearing a handful of shots and seeing less than 30 birds each trip.

I did see a photo of my buddies son in law's boat on the ramp... a gatorglide mishap.

Scouted the big lake a week before the opener...saw maybe fifty birds in four hours, sheesh! The matted grass/phragmite mess stopped me a couple of times...wide open water elsewhere and few places to hide...so I stayed south where I saw few birds but bagged 29 ringers in six hunts- long stretches of nothing and then all hell would break loose and glad I brought the coffee! Oh yeah, a hen pintail floated in on a bluebird day and I bagged it- see a pintail once a decade. No airboat noise, that was heavenly. Only thing I wish for now is some cool weather...

So your saying its not a bad year to not have a boat and be able to hunt? Even hearing all this I still want to be out there.

Yep... You aren't missing anything. After the sun is up I have avoided the tight marsh trails due to all the boats blasting through them. Can't believe we have not heard about any trail collisions yet, but very glad we have not.

A buddy of mine hunted a ranch a few miles from my house and took video of hundreds of teal. Plenty of water, food, and little pressure... so those birds have no reason to go to the lake.

There's a couple of places a little closer to me then chobee that are 10 hp or less. There both holding a decent amount of ducks, so I'm thinking of getting a little ghenoee with a 10 hp long tail. Inexspensive and light.

Fellsmere has a 10hp restricted area. Back in the day, before they started spraying hydrilla, it was awesome. We found a permanent blind back in there that we revitalized about 25 years ago. Since they started spraying that whole area has sucked for the most part.

I heard kenansville is not worth the drive down that long ass beat your kidneys to a pulp rough ass road.

Went on the lake bass fishing yesterday and made a quick run through the marsh. Didn't see enough yesterday to get me fired up to battle the crowds next saturday.

It’s the same to the north! We hunt Griffin regularly and it’s been the same with more people than birds! Hopefully with the Thanksgiving holiday behind us some of the opportunist will stay in bed!
