40 EFI
Seen pictures of gtr xd 40 and mudbuddy raptor 5000. What’s the word on these new motors. Have not seen any talking about them.

Re: 40 EFI
All the manufacturers had 40 HP engines at the Sportsman’s show.
Looking at the EPA labels...993 CC displacement on them and on the 37’s. So, you do the math and figure out where they getting the extra HP.....or read some other 40 EFI threads.

Re: 40 EFI
Go devil at sportsman show said the 3hp difference is a BIG difference.. I’ve not forgotten what changed on the motor, I wanna say heads cam and exhaust. I know for sure he said there’s was gutted but I had a hard time believing that bc it sure looked like a stock exhaust with internals still intact. Either way exciting to see the horsepower keep climbing

Re: 40 EFI
Based on some promo posts from Boss, this is what Briggs has done to the motor, but it looks like Boss added the BPS muffler.

Really nothing to get too excited about. The 37EFI with BPS exhaust is 38.5hp.......Mud Buddy throws the BPS muffler in every spring as a promotion.

Re: 40 EFI
The BOSS reps at the show told me that the modifications made by Briggs greatly improved the low end torque and overall reliability, and that was proven out during BOSS's testing of the motor. I never saw a chart, graph, or RPM/Torque curve, and I was being told this by a salesman, not a mechanic, so don't take this to the bank. Supposedly the engine dynos around 46 to 47 without exhaust, again nothing to corroborate that story. The salesman told me that they believe enough in what this engine will do that they will no longer sell the ARKMOS 4400 Black Death. But they're still available according to their website, so what's up with that. Guess I'll have to buy one to see for myself.

Re: 40 EFI
The dyno without the exhaust is legit, I'm not a salesman and hate Briggs. Reliability? If so, wouldn't a longer warranty be in order since they don't have to worry about them breaking? Lol

Re: 40 EFI
so now GT, MB and Boss all have the 40 EFI for $8995.
Anyone Know the performance difference between the 40EFI and 4400 Black Deaths? 1k difference for 4hp seems a little steep considering you can strap on a high output exhaust and gain 2-3hp on that 40EFI.

Re: 40 EFI
If they claimed 44 hp, they had to pay for a testing process. If they say 4400, and add the disclaimer, they don't have to go through that hassle.

Re: 40 EFI
I bought a new GTR 40 XD last week and picked it up from gatortail. My boat that is is going on is getting a built in gas tank and some other stuff added to the boat currently. Once it is completed and I run it, I'll do a review on it and let everyone know how it performs. I have a voodoo for it and a worked merc prop. I'll let y'all know how it does. I saw someone on here asked about custom exhaust voiding warranty. It does not as long as the exhaust is not the cause of whatever issue you have with your motor, according to Gatortail.

Does anyone know what rpm the 40 coils run at, and what the rev limiter is.

Re: 40 EFI
Mud Buddy has stopped production of the 37efi and replaced it with the 40efi. Heard that from Clint at MB a couple of weeks ago.. That should give you an idea of what they think of the 40...

Re: 40 EFI
That’s funny, because Delta Performance seems to be pretty impressed with the stock 40’s numbers on the dyno. Not saying they can’t be improved, but kinda short sighted to claim its junk based on looks alone

Re: 40 EFI
I installed a fresh one last week. Compression was at 168 wich is a lot more than all previous big blocks. I was impressed with the improved tourqe on it. I think it's finally a respectable stock engine

Re: 40 EFI
I just picked up my rig. 20/54 WC. 3/16 bottom and GT40 stock. I've only had it out once and got 29mph alone. The only thing I can compare it to is my 23hp backwater Lt lol. So far I like it. Jumps up pretty good also. Me and Pete will fart around with props later ...it has 2blade now. I have whopping 1.5 hours on it now.

Re: 40 EFI
That speed is nothing to complain about for sure . A 20X54 boat with 3/16 bottom is big. You should be able to carry some big loads in there.

Re: 40 EFI
I had over 5000 hrs on my 36 briggs. I have over 200 hrs on my 40 briggs. only problem I can remember is it ate a pushrod at 70 sumthin hours and has some cam wear, but it wasn't enough for briggs to worry about. as far as performance, it starts better than the 36, has way more balls in the floton than the 36, and is a little faster than the 36. it burns more fuel than the 36 too!!!! I love mine. and I got another year or so of warranty!!!!!!!
btw, this is on a prodrive.

Re: 40 EFI
Thinking about upgrading my 35 to a 40 on my 1860 GT boat ( older but still like new.)
I have heads/ rockers/cam/exhaust/intake/mikuni carb on my 35. I have another identical engine sitting in my basement ready to be put on another boat. I am considering selling both of these motors to get a new GTR 40XD HP EFI.
Any idea how well this 40 HP would compare on a big boat like mine compared to what I currently have? If it isn't going to be noticeable, I probably wont upgrade.
My motors are very reliable so far and I rarely ever run them over 4000 RPM and they get the job done. I would like to upgrade to the new reverse system.
Also, any idea on what my motors are worth? They are 2009 era's with less than 300 hours on them.
Both motors have heads/ rockers/cam/exhaust/intake/mikuni carb
One of them has roller rockers.
Both setups have the reverse cavitation plates as well.
