The Cost of Stupid
After a night of bow fishing, I was backing the boat back into the garage and some dumb ass (me) forgot to raise the garage door all the way, and I caught the top of the trolling motor on the garage door. They flex, but not enough for the pressure put on it.
Being I can not fold the trolling motor into the usual stow position with the light rail on, I just raise the shaft of the trolling motor in the highest position and lock it down.
I heard the fiberglass shaft crack.
That was about a $300 mistake.
I was looking at the cracked shaft on the old trolling motor (already replaced with one just like it) and I stepped on it, and it all popped back in place. I am betting I can get me some fiberglass tape and resin, and make it usable for another boat. It just would not be able to be raised to the highest position (most never need to).
At least I did not do something stupid to mess up my big motor.

Bro, I hate when things like that happen. Makes you look into the sky and ask "why God?" Lol

Re: The Cost of Stupid
You can replace the shaft, but with the pressure it takes to twist with a pipe wrench (after heating the metal on the motor housing) I assumed the cracked fiberglass would just bust all to pieces at the base. Who knows.

Re: The Cost of Stupid
Hopefully it is repairable without having to spend the 300 bucks.

Re: The Cost of Stupid
Hate to hear that, hopefully you can find a fix or use it for spare parts.
