I have seen them mounted on a 1546, 1744, 1748, 1652, etc, and on and on. An 1852 is a good size boat to run a 35hp surface drive on, and itll be fine with either a mud buddy, prodrive, godevil, or gatortail. It's not too much weight, and pretty sure the weldbilt transom has enough bracing and is built well enough to handle surface drives. Not certain, but that is an easy fix if you think it's a little anemic.

Thanks for the feed back I ordered the boat with extra transom bracing and they talked like they would beef it up a little more than that. I just didn’t know if a 300 pound motor would make the boat ass end heavy or not

1852 will be safe with that size motor. I run a 36 Prodrive on the back of an 1852 boat. Have owned a 35 Mudbuddy on the back of a skinny 1844 Gatortrax. My friend is a Mudbuddy dealer and I have seen many boat / motor combos of the type you describe.

^ I bet my POS 40 outruns your rig :D

To the OP, My dad designed a cool little transom brace that is removable and costs about 50 bucks to make. I have it on both of my rigs and it works like a charm. Pm me and I can send you the design if you want a little more bracing

Will it work and not be too heavy on the ass end, yes. Will the engine eventually need to be removed so that you can rebuild the transom and install the proper support that surface drives require, yes.
These factory style boats are designed to have outboards on them. An outboard has a lower center of gravity than what surface drives have.
Pay attention to the bolts that secure the engine to the transom. Eventually you will probably notice that they are having to be tightened every now and then. Once it gets to that point it'll be a good idea to have your transom beefed up.
