40 Hp GTR Rock Guard
Haven’t you posted about this rock guard that is allegedly built by coco yet on a gatortail like 6 times?
I don’t get it. I’ve banged off many rocks, never had a serious issue. Bring an extra prop if you’re that worried.

Re: 40 Hp GTR Rock Guard
Stumps and sticks won’t hurt a fat blade, nor the GTR LU....
If you’re in an area where you might hit them and have the tiller pop back and hit you, either slow down, or stand further forward and have the tiller behind you. That engine is designed to handle that all day. You overbuilt a boat but seem afraid to use it.

Re: 40 Hp GTR Rock Guard
Sounds like you need to go to a smaller longtail on a smaller boat for the stumpy areas, and an outboard on that one and keep it in cleaner water or run around through that stuff at idle. If you're concerned about tearing it up with normal use: one, you'll never enjoy it, and two, you'll never appreciate it for what it is. The load you're putting in it has nothing to do with hitting stumps hitting the lower unit and the tiller hitting you. I've seen prodroves, mudbuddys, and gatortail all hit stumps very hard at high speed and none of them have that rock guard crap "protecting" the prop. They're fine, and none of the have much more than maybe a nick in the edge of the prop or in the skeg.

take that off that motor man. the prop will still find a way to hit stuff. let it eat.

Re: 40 Hp GTR Rock Guard
When the Tiller got me I was at dead slow going over a log jam. I think the logs were floating but still dead slow. The reason I was at dead slow was because I had to aim at the bank to get over them, otherwise I would not have had to slow down. One of those times when a tree had layed over and trapped logs.

Re: 40 Hp GTR Rock Guard
What exactly is the point of the contraption you posted? you're interrupting the flow of clean water to the prop, and that thing literally doesn't protect the prop at all.

Re: 40 Hp GTR Rock Guard
I got the GTR "Sand/Rock" guard option when I bought my motor--It is just a deeper skeg that came bolted on instead of the standard. Don't know if they still sell it.

Guys I hate to tell you this but I can not tell this has hurt my performance any at all. It has greatly helped running through brush and logs. This thing is staying on.

Re: 40 Hp GTR Rock Guard
I helped Mike build it and we tilted the motor up level with the bottom of the boat lining it up using a 2"X4" then made it level with the board
