I think I cracked my block this weekend. Lot of oil coming from behind the flywheel on the same side as oil filter. I don't have the money right now to get a new motor, but I'm thinking of getting a short block I know Briggs wants $1200 for one. I saw new 35 Briggs short block on Ebay for $650. Has anyone on here ever bought one of these and do you thinks this is a smart buy. Wish I could just take it to Calen and have him fix it but money is too tight right now and can't be without boat come Sept.

It sounds like all you need is a block. I think just a block is about 650. Make sure to clarify.

I don't understand why it cracked it's only 7months old. Was running fine and all of a sudden oil everywhere.

The short block I found on eBay is a briggs and Stratton 496238 short block model 35 horizontal. Does anyone know if this is the correct model?

@deadbird8 you are correct. I only ordered the block. I totally misspoke about getting a short block. My bad. I called the mower shop again regarding your part number and my engine model and type are model 613477- type 0007B year 2013. The part number you listed is for type 0005 and 0008...skips 0007 and list Briggs part # 846178 for my particular engine block. I have no idea why and the shop couldn't answer that question either.

Before you go spending a bunch of $$ you need to pull the flywheel, and find the leak. Almost every time I see oil leaks there, it is from the crank seal, not a block crack.
