Hey I did a quick search and couldn't find a good answer to this one. I have multiple boats that need paint bad. What paint are you boat painters using to repaint boats? like what brand and type? I have a local automotive paint store and a sherwin Williams store along with lowes and home depot to get it from. Also what prep process would be best to make it stick to original paint and faded bare spots? I've painted them before with rattle cans and they looked good for a few hours of run time then flaked off. I already have a couple of cheap spray guns and would prefer to do it right this time. There's so many different ideas thrown around online of what to do and what will work but I want to make sure it's done right this time. I want to camo atleast one of them so I need something I can stencil over also. Thanks. Other question I want to paint the floors on my hoop net boat due to it being slick especially when wet. Would I accomplish anything painting it then throwing sand or something like that over it then respraying again to seal it in? Just a though trying to keep weight down and don't want to liner it. Thx

Duralux aluminum boat paint is good stuff, and fairly easy to find. The trick is getting the surface surgically clean before applying. Even rattle can paint will wear good if the prep is good.

Yes, you can apply sand. Roll it on thick, add sand to the texture you want, let it dry, then roll or spray on another coat.

For prep process am I looking at a good degreasing power wash and then spray it down with aluminum acid to clean all the bare spots then once dry spray the base coats or is primer required before the main coat?

Gonna take a lot more than that if you want it to last.

No primer required with the Duralux.

I use Nason machinery paint. You can buy it at DuPont stores. I've used it for a while and seems to hold up.

Sherwin Williams paint seems like it doesn't hold up as well.
