I'm finally pulling the trigger and getting my first flats boat for hunting and fishing. Its a GT 17x50 hybrid. I currently own a 14" jon boat and it has done me well,,, just time to get a bit more comfortable. I made a scissor blind for the jon boat and worked well even though it was a bit flimsy. I made it out of 3/4" conduit pipe. With this new boat I was thinking something a bit more stout like 1" galvanized pipe?? With this bigger boat I will only be using 13' of blind in the 17' boat,, figured I wouldn't build it to cover the extended fish deck on the bow? That I'd just lay some camo material on the bow area??? Should I make the scissor blind the conventional X type like I did the jon boat, or is there a better way? |

Do a search on the forum. There's 3 pretty good, halfway recent threads (last 6-8 months) about boat blinds, and many more that have a picture or 2. Some of the guys posting those good boat blind pics or answering the questions you just asked don't frequent here anymore. Do yourself a favor and dig a bit. Those threads will be a big help. |

Also search Youtube for a video on building a scissor type that is easily installed and removed. I use one. the thing is climbing in and out of it at bow and stern, unless you sit it were you can step up on a seat or deck to step out. Its really cheap to build. |

I built mine like the one Gtrax sells except I did not drill into my hull at all. I used 3/4 conduit, but then took 1/2 conduit and put it inside and screwed/riveted it together for the long horizontal pieces to make it more rigid. I have pics on here somewhere, |

yea I made a 3/4 conduit scissor for my 14' jon boat... works ok but it is flimsy... Was thinking about using 3/4 alum pipe or galvanized pipe... what do ya'll think about that? |

Alum is what I'm using. But I'm not making a scissor style. |
