I have my opinion on the situation but I want to hear it from you guys. If you had a 37 SWOMP and were having a custom hull built, what size would you go with? Going to be a pointed bow for timber running. I want a good balance of speed and load carrying. I'm pretty set on a 1748. Unless someone here can convince me otherwise. I have no desire to go any narrower than 48" and really don't want to be longer than 17' for storage purposes.

Sounds like you have your mind made up but an 1848 would be all around better.

I have an 18/48 with a removable gun box and extended front deck. Speed only drops off a little with three people and a hunt load. Works for me. (BW 35 LS)

Frank, I am also thinking of a smaller boat . Although I will not run timber that much I am considering 18x48 or a 17x52. A 20x60 is a little big but it will carry a load.
