Who's got a trick for straightening a spud pole?
Got two aluminum spud poles that are bent. One from being wenched agaist, the other from big waves pushing the boat when it was anchored down.
I wouldn't mind except now they're a pain to get in my holders and into the spud hole.

1" Gray PVC electrical conduit....$4 each.....just saying.
As for fixing your bent spuds, put them into the spud holes and straighten them out....or find a 1" pipe bender.

I’m going to run some of those. Just plan to make a T handle for the top.
Do you fill them with foam so they float and don’t fill with crud?

Once they bend, even if you straighten them, they will always bend again very easily in that same spot.
I have one that will bend now when you use to actually push pole with. Worthless.

PVC, cap both ends or "t" capped at one end. Drill a hole in cap in each end, fill with spray in foam. Makes them a little stiffer and won't sink.

They don’t make a pointed end cap do they? I don’t want to cap it flat, I’d never be able to push it in.

I don't think so, but I really never issues with it not going into mud or soft bottoms.

We have clay and some rock. I’ll probably just cut it off at an angle and fill it with foam.

Re: Who's got a trick for straightening a spud pole?
I do cut an angle into one end to help stab it into whatever. Yeah, I just let crud get in it. It always ends up cleaning itself out. Sometimes takes a little beating on the side of the boat or dropping it onto solid ground. It's worth the difference in price.

Re: Who's got a trick for straightening a spud pole?
I have to put mine in a vice to straighten. There is a company out of atl that makes fiberglass spud poles with pointed ends and "T" handles on the other. A friend of mine has some and they are the best spud poles I have seen. I'll try and get a name of the company so you can check them out. I will be getting some this spring.

1” OD is the same size as the aluminum poles that come from GT? Anybody know for sure? I’m not where I can measure mine.

Re: Who's got a trick for straightening a spud pole?
I picked up schedule 40 after I bent my original aluminum spud poles at the beginning of last summer. With wind and waves over a hard bottom they had a few times when they would bind in the thru-hull- hole due to the sideways pressure, rise with the wave, straighten out when riding up with the wave (not stuck in the bottom), and then not push back into the bottom when the boat hit the next trough because they were no longer bound. In heavier, open conditions holding in place required resetting from time to time. I also didn't like how the schedule 40 bound in the thru-hull hole when deployed under heavy current.
I ended up going to my local steel distributor and picking up two 1 1/4 aluminum round, 12 feet long. I ground one end to a point, cut to fit comfortably in my interior (a little over 9 feet), and put a stainless bolt crossways through the other end. I have since found that the solid pole is easier to pull back through the hull when in current or wind.
It was more work, more expensive, and each pole now weighs a little under 16 lbs; however, the poles are less likely to bind, bend, or pull out of the bottom under adverse conditions.
If I drop one it is going to sink. That said, I normally don't set up in water deep enough where retrieval will be impossible. If I do, I consider the $40-$45 replacement cost to be peanuts compared to what I have in the rest of the rig.
I will also eventually coat the solid poles with Gator Glide when I do the bottom of my boat. This will probably eliminate the rest of the friction I encounter when my boat is stuck to the bottom in heavy current or wind.

I tried the PVC route... didn't work at all for me. Absolute junk. Never worked for shit.

Re: Who's got a trick for straightening a spud pole?
I ended up buying some assemble at home 1” fiberglass spud poles. 8’ one piece with handles and stainless pointed ends. $55 each.
