My goal is to upgrade to a surface drive, leaning towards a Gator Tail.
I currently run a 2000 Lowe 1760mt. This has been a great boat for me and I plan to keep it.
I have been running a MB longtail, 35 with pipes, and Mikuni carb.
I had pods put on the boat which made a big difference in getting on plane.
I can run 12-13 with 2 guys dog and gear with the Long tail.
I have been happy with it for 15 years, but as I get older, the work I get day in and day out is wearing on this old guy.
I ran my buddies surface drive and was sold that I needed to upgrade and pick up some more speed and ease of operation.
Now if I could run in the 25MPH range, that would be great, I don't need any more than that, so a stock motor at this point might be all I need.

Does anyone run this boat or something similar?

I'm looking for your thoughts on putting 35 or 37 Gator tail on my Lowe 1760mt?
I will be putting the motor on the transom, which is not extended like most boats are today.
Will I need to add more support to the transom?
Will the pods impact performance or if it does will it be negligible?
Also, between these 2 motors, what would you say the 2-3 main differences are? ie speed, self-repairability, if I would make a few changes, which motor would be easier to work on?
