Post Grass seed prep for a yard
We moved to the new house almost 1 year ago and I'm about tired of the BS grass in the yard. Our last house, I had sodded with centipede, but it was only about 1/4 acre and most of that was covered with house, pool and shop. Now I'm on a little more than 1 acre and to sod would be stupid amounts of $$$. So I'm looking into seeding. I know I need to bring in some dirt to level out where the trucks came in to build my shop. I was planning on cutting the grass/weeds on the lowest setting and raking up the loose debris. Then dragging some sort of rake or drag behind my ranger to till it up some. Spread the seed, then use a weighted roller to somewhat pack the ground back. Has anyone done this? Or is my line of thinking wrong? I'm not spending $8k to sod a yard.

Going through nearly an identical situation- won't Bermuda end up filling in pretty good cause it grows and spreads like a weed? Can you seed centipede over a half ass filled in yard that was seeded about 14 months ago with Bermuda?

it looks like your in same boat. I would hate to remove most or all of the "weed grass", because until the centipede seed takes, which I was told is between 10 and 30 days, the other shit grass could keep the rain from washing the seeds into one place.

Just thought of something, what if I cut my existing lawn pretty low. Bring in sdome dirt to level it all out (its just a few places). Then use a spike aerator. This would keep some of the existing bull shit grass there for erosion purposes, but the new seeds would fall into the aerated holes. Thus the holes would hold more water and also some fertilizer. But then again, WTF do I know. lol

I spent a few bucks on the weed killer you hook up to the hose. Its been very dry here in FL and the weeds were brown in a week. I ran an aerator over it again and again which basically tilled it all up and finished off the weeds. I spent a few hundred on Bermuda seed and ran the aerator on it again, and then watered the puss out of it 2 times a day. A month and a half later my yard is almost all filled in and green. Oh and I fertilized the he'll out of it with milogranite.

Same boat here. Built a house and put 20 pallets of sod down note I have about 30,000 sf of rye grass and dirt that I need to start prepping for grass. My sod is Bermuda and I have been thinking about harlyraking the yard then hydro seeding with Bermuda. My house is on a hill ( walkout basement steep) so I will need something that will grow quit but I won't spend the 13,500 for sod that I was quoted.
