Both boats would do the job you looking for. I would go with the Gator-Tail 17x54 extreme myself. What motor are you looking at on the Gator Trax does it have reverse? The Gator-Tail has reverse and it would carry a load better due to it being a tapered square chine instead of a round chine like on the Gator Trax.

That's funny...we have heard the square chine guys say they would not want the weight of the gas tank in the rear but Gator Trax offers a built in 9 or 12 gallong gas tank in the read of their 50" and 54" hulls.

The 54" Gator Trax will be wider based on design and carry a load just as well.

The draft difference is marginal and not even worth mentioning.

Go look at both of them and get the one that you like best. Now that right there is unbiased info. It's really your choice and I don't think you can go wrong either way.

I say GTrax, but a GTail would be my next choice. personally I enjoy the round chines esp with a 54" boat in narrow cuts and around stumps and logs for its tendency to slide off banks and logs you may run up on . Also working out of mud I find it slides more side to side when your working the motor back and forth than friends square hulls.

I would get the gtr because they are tough as hell and have reverse. It would be best if you could ride in both boats and make your on decision on the boat. Duckslayer said he would take you and maybe someone else will offer to take you on a test ride then it would be easier to decide.

Gator Trax owner Kent, who sell both motors says the mud buddy is a better motor even though I doesn't have reverse... Y'all opinions?? He is a sells man though, right!!

Just take a good look at both motors and you decide. Gator tail made from heavy aluminum tube and machined parts, and mud buddy made from stamped steel and cast aluminum. Just look at the transom bracket and see the difference in how they are made. Which do you think is stronger and will last?
