Ethanol gas issues with small engines ?
anyone had any engine issues caused by the added ethanol in fuels these days ? Small engine shops are covered up with the burnt-up engines.

Re: Ethanol gas issues with small engines ?
Ethanol should provide a cleaner (hotter) burn. If anything ethanol should reduce most of the issues with bad fuel and engine sludge. Only reason I see that ethanol alone would be the cause is the % in the fuel was too high and these small engines dont have the compression to contain the burn.

Re: Ethanol gas issues with small engines ?
one of the big things with ethanol that i've seen is when you let the gas (regular unleaded) sit for awhile or even sometimes just a week that the etahnol gums up the carb
Had to rebuild carb on my weldin machine 3 times due to etanol gumming up the jets and floats.
I run supreme fuel (93 octane here in TX) in all my carberated (sp?) engines b/c it doesnt have near the ethanol if any as regular does
I've noticed even in my 2007 toyota tacoma that it takes away from the performance and efficiency just with the 10% in regular gasoline

Re: Ethanol gas issues with small engines ?
one problem with ethonal is that you can get phase seperation. That is the ethonal/alcohol will seperate form the fuel. Lot of guys think this is water in the gas, but if you "pour" it off and lite it, it WILL make a large flame
just my 2 cents

Re: Ethanol gas issues with small engines ?
Had to use ethanol in motors in my area . In the beginning we had trouble with it messing up fuel lines and rubber seals, now in 2009 no one complains anymore. Most motors that were harmed have been trashed in the junk yard by now. Try using this stuff as it needs a stabilizer to keep it from getting "gummy" after a month or so..
