 tachometer question
im looking to install a regular marine tach on my 25 gdlt, and was told that i could use the kill switch wire that goes to the coils as a signal wire, does that sound correct to you guys?

 Re: tachometer question
Does it not just wrap around the spark plug wire? It actually has to be tapped in to a wire?

 Re: tachometer question

 Re: tachometer question
Does it not get the signal the same way? Post up a wiring diagram or a link to one...

 Re: tachometer question
well, car tachs use a signal from the coil to determine rpm, and im not sure if the coil wire on my kohler does the same. i know it has voltage to the wire going to the lanyard cuz it always shocks the shit outta me

 Re: tachometer question
I think a lot of the "marine" tachs, especially one's for outboards work similar to the tiny tach. But if you have a volt meter, set it to ac and see what that wire your talking about reads. If it fluctuates when rpm's change, I'd think it would work. Hopefully the tach has some different settings so you can get it tuned to read whatever voltage the kohler uses. brlcla posted up one a while back that is backlit and works like the tiny tach. It would work for sure. Same company makes one for oil temp that I've been looking into...
