Re: Stage III longevity v/s stock
Hey Terry kiss my arse, just because you have blown 2 motors cause you don't know what the hell your doing...hahahahahaha just jacking with ya big guy, there's more to it then just rods and pistons, that was just an idea of what i was thinking of doing, i use my boat alot during hunting season and for work building blinds, so i'm not gonna jeopardize my reliability just to go fast, but i would like a little more load carrying capability, if i wanted a speed boat then i'd go out and get me one, but i'm a hunter not a racer

Re: Stage III longevity v/s stock
When I did my mods I maybe gained 2 mph top end not a big deal.. I did however go from 16 mph with 4 guys in it back to 26 or so. Which is where I was running 1 guy on a stock motor. I don't think I gave up any reliability if anything My motor runs better. It definetly Idles better and starts easier

Re: Stage III longevity v/s stock
If you do things right and and don't try to overgrind or get to aggressive you should be fine. I love the load push on my motor. I don't play nearly as much as I hunt and most often w/ a big load.

Re: Stage III longevity v/s stock
I put a 3 degree tiiming key in mine.. Seems to run better. I was told to run it both ways cause some motors take to them and others will not.

Re: Stage III longevity v/s stock
I was told 3 degrees.. I could be wrong. Mine also has a 3 on it..So maybe its just a number and doesn't represent degrees. Would have to ask EVT thats where I got mine from.. Craig or DDM would know..

Re: Stage III longevity v/s stock
a block from the factory has been assembled by low paid workers or maybe even automated machines who dont give a flying f uck if it breaks or not, due to the rough edges
slightly modded engines run better than stock plain and simple, I found they run smoother and healthier, now a motor with sleeved pistons ect....arnt many motors made to scream 5500 rpms all day long and stay together.
to me the way they cast the blocks is a piss poor operation. just remember as the prices go up on EVERYTHING companies usually try to save a few bucks on the making process to not dramatically raise prices on the product.
If I blow this block up...330ish hours since modded, I'll do the same to my next. warranty or not. when hunting public it is a race to the finish line every morning.

Re: Stage III longevity v/s stock
He got a Stage 1 from hoyt. Heads, cam, exhaust. It is simple reliable, and makes good power. When My stock cam rouned a lobe off, Hunter towed my boat in and Got his boat on step. Yep he was towing my rig at 19-20 mph GPS.

Re: Stage III longevity v/s stock
well I myself have the 45 and the only problem i have is it drinks more fuel but it is much better pushing my heavy boat over stumps and logs from a stand still when i get caught off guard. Speed is not something your gonna get from mods alone with out a prop. and they only put so much pitch on a MM prop. hope this helps im not a huge MM guru this is just my experience.

Re: Stage III longevity v/s stock
I saw a post by esh titled prop repitched. He picked up 4mph having his 12.25 big blade tried up and pitched to 11.225. I think he said 31mph at 3900-4000 rpm. Cost $170. Can't beat that. Makes me wonder. Since my motor stock. If I went with the smaller 11x10 prop and pitch it to 11.255 if I'd see similiar speed increase. Right now I have the Big Blade on.

Re: Stage III longevity v/s stock
I had it progressively added to the pitch. Like changing your final drive to a numerically lower set or putting larger diameter tires on.
