I hope to get my Generac on my boat later this week... did you pick up your boat at Roberts house or at the shop? Reason I am asking is if you were at Roberts house you probably saw my airboat...

If I wanted 60hp I would not beef up a Briggs engine but rather spend all that hard earned money on a balanced 88 to 96 cubic inch harley or balanced S&S V-twin to get some smooth reliable power to that prop. I know you're already into this project deep so ignore my suggestion (I just couldn't help myself). I hope you get it figured out soon.

Air flow.... the biggest issue with harley or s&s motors on these engines is cooling.... getting the air flow across the cylinders... you would have to add external electric fans...

it can be done and has been done.... still a lot of testing to do before they become mainstream... also have to look at power to weight ratio.... if i can get reliable 60 HP from a 165# motor why would i spend $$$$ on a harley that weights over 200#...

I must concur that if you can get 60 reliable HP from a briggs then that would be another story. Run the harley and S&S a little rich and install a couple quality oil coolers and don't get too crazy on the timing would give you a starting point not too mention possibly needing a larger prop and a different gear ratio with a beefier belt. If I had the money I'd be all over this type of experiement along with welding up a chrome moly frame for weight reduction. Slap something like that on an 18x60 or 20x60 hull to support the added weight of the motor and things could get interesting.

I think you can easily get 60 reliable HP from a Briggs.... there are plenty of them out there... i think you can get 70HP reliably from a Generac....

Just because you read about 1 out of 10 modded motors having issues doesn't mean they are not reliable.... I truthfully think that Briggs does not go through all the tolerancing that Harley and S&S go through which leads to noticeable differences in these engines.... come on they are industrial equipment that are designed to be beat to death... you can't tolerance them to well.... that is where a lot of the effciency is lost...

Lots of differences between the way Briggs and Generacs are made vs Harley and the highe end bikes.... actually lots of differences b/w briggs and generacs themselves....

if these motors were not reliable i don't think the builders that do the work could be keeping a good business going from them...

actually the failure rate is much less than that... if you start digging...

but these are just my opinions from what i have read and experienced...
