well i got a question. my kohler starts 2 make a ticking sound after i run it awhile, it dont lose any power just bothers me. Is it the lifters, bent push rods, or what . thank u 4 the help

Ticking from the valve cover area? How many hours on the engine? Might need a valve adjustment.

yea it sounds like it is around the exhaust. It is my buddys motor. But like he said when the motor gets warm it has a slight tick. Aint sure if it is an exhaust leak or valves

If its an exhaust leak youll see a little BLACK CARBON near the gaskets.

The kohlers should not need valve adjustments. You can pop the valve cover off and have a look if you want. Unless you know how to set the valves with hydraulic lifters, I would take it to someone who does before you start jackin with it.

Sounds like an exhaust leak to me....

Might be something where when it warms up, a leak opens up a little more....

Depending on what exhaust it has, could be on the exhaust itself, could be the gasket, or could be at the flange...

its all just stock exhaust and its a 99' model

11 yr old exhaust.....

Without hearing it myself and based on what you describe and assuming you have sufficient oil in it, I stick with my original thought that it is an exhaust leak (pinhole).... That will make a ticking sound sound...

just got off wok thanks 4 the help gona order a exhaust . got gaskets own the way. what you guys suggest own after market exhaust?

You have two options on the kohler...EVT or BPS. I run the evt and am happy with it, very nice sound to it. Have not seen or heard the bps for the kohler so I won't comment on it.

mine did that once. You might think I'm crazy but change the oil then see if it goes away.

friends of mine's knocked/tapped bad
took the valve covers off....all four of the valve push rods were bent or bowed!
