Post 27 Kohler Low RPMS
May of this year I bought a 2004 27 Kohler GDLT, let it sit until September and finally picked up a 1844 Go Devil hull for it. When i went to look at the motor it seemed to run fine, fired right up when it was cold and idled/ran fine. He didn't have a tach on the motor though. I threw a tach on and have run the motor a few times the past month. Takes a couple tries to get it to fire and when it does it needs to warm up first or it will die when giving it throttle. Tach reads 1180 at idle, 3080 RPMS in the water and about 3500 out of the water. Boat hits about 14-15mph solo with a cooler and 13 with 3 people and a cooler (Prop is worn and needs to be replaced).

I have run seafoam through the carb and replaced the spark plugs. I don't know a whole lot about motors but I am very comfortable with all other mechanical aspects and would like to try and fix this myself before brining it to the local shop listed on Kohlers website to have them look at it.

Thanks in advance for any help

Start with the cleaning the carb and jets . Could be a few things but gotta start with the basics just to eliminate them

Not sure if there is any RPM drop between the SD and LT. MY 27 GDSD runs 4190rpms wot in the water. I have upgraded a few things so that maybe some of the difference but you should be higher than what you are currently in my estimation. Start with cleaning the carb and see what you get from there.

Turn the governor up to about 4500 out of water.

Thanks for all the replies. Looks like I'll start with cleaning out the carb/jets and then adjusting the governor this weekend.

Uh, whichever way lets you rev higher. It's not rocket science.
