 Dipstick issue
Ever since I build my engine the dipstick will not stay pushed down into the tube. I constantly have to push it back down during a ride. It only pops out about a half inch, but it still bothers me. Anyone else have this problem? How did you remedy it?

 Re: Dipstick issue
Do a leakdown to find out how much blowby you have on the rings. Shouldn't have that much pressure in there. Add a wrap or two of electrical tape so the dipstick stopper fits tighter if leakdown checks out.

 Re: Dipstick issue
Bingo Russ. You have either a worn dipstick (doubt it), but more than likely excessive crankcase pressure. It can be ring blowby or a blown headgasket.

 Re: Dipstick issue
The dipstick does not fit in the tube as snug with the new case case cover as it did with the old.
I will do a leak down.
The boat runs great though (34 unloaded/32 loaded), so I would think there would be performance issues... not just a dipstick popping out of the tube a half inch.

 Re: Dipstick issue
GREAT.
I've noticed the same thing recently. Heads were just reworked about 10-15 hours of use ago...
Guess I'm ordering a leak down kit.. Boat runs like a top though.

 Re: Dipstick issue
If your rings are leaking I've seen many stock motors have 10-15% leakage from them and run fine. You will have some case pressure its the nature of the beast.

 Re: Dipstick issue
1. get a piece of string. 2. tie one end of string to big loop on end of dipstick.{where u put your finger at to pull dipstick} 3. tie other end to something else on engine to keep dipstick from popping up. 4. enjoy

 Re: Dipstick issue
Dead animal.... that is my plan for the time being. I have seen several rigs with their dipstick anchored with wire, string, or zip ties.

Pinch the tube with pliers to snugg it.

^^ Has a lot of experience trying to get something that's too small to fit snugly in a hole that's too big.

 Re: Dipstick issue
A pretty neat tool that I have used is a blow by pressure tester. It will record amount of engine blow by. It will tell u condition of engine. If u search it you can Also build your own simple one. Question for you engine builders will a engine have more blow by at idle or wot.

 Re: Dipstick issue
My stock 37 did this. Those little small bungee straps work well. Make sure it's a purple one lol
