Post gator tail clutch leak
my clutch is leaking fluid from the seal located behind the clutch on the back side of the reservoir. i think i will change the fluid to a heavy weight oil, clean it up, and run it. if this doesn't work, any ideas how hard that is to take apart?

Not very difficult if you have turned a wrench before.

If you have to run to Home Depot to buy tools... better to call a professional.

I installed a new seal about 12 months ago and now use a heavier oil.

My old motor used to do it. They said nothing to worry about just put some heavier oil in. They said they have ran those things dry for 200 hours with no issues, just looks bad when oil is leaking from your $9,000 motor  used to drive me nuts

Go to a heavy gear oil and set the bottom screw at 9 o'clock at the highest. It doesn't take much oil at all

9 o clock? That makes it horizontal. Pretty sure it's 10 or 2 for the top one.

thanks for the input. i called gator tail and they said to make sure i didn't overfill it first, so i cleaned it up and refilled with exactly 1 ounce. ill try it out this weekend. they did give some instruction on how to change the seal if need be. ill check back in after my weekend trek.

I just assumed he meant the planetary when he mentioned oil leak.

I've got 110hrs on mine, been leaking for about 40hrs. Doesn't effect performance ( I don't think), but I don't know if it's wearing things our prematurely. Also annoying having oil all over the place.

Have them send you a new seal. Mine leaked after 17 hours, called and had a new seal shipped covered under warranty and removed the seal. It took about 45 min from start to finish to replace so it's a really easy fix.
