 Generator Trouble
I have a generator for my bowfishing lights that is 3550 running watts. I have 7 500 watt lights, with 3 on chord, 3 on a chord, and 1 on a chord. Last time i went out, it kept shutting off and i kept having to reset the breaker. A couple minutes later it would do the same thing. Eventually it stopped, but this was the first time that it ever did this. Anyone have any ideas as to why this might have happened? I know 3500 watts is close to 3550, but I dont understand why it never did this before if thats the problem.

 Re: Generator Trouble
Tried that for a while and it would still kill the generator. Ive got 2 on each side and 3 in the front so I dont want to take any off.

 Re: Generator Trouble
I run mostly 250's with a 500 up front. it works just fine but i'll make the led plunge hopefully soon.

 Re: Generator Trouble
With 7 50th your pulling 29 amps. That's too much when you factor the loss in to equation from the cords. You need to drop back to less. This is probably why 6 will still make it shut off. Probably weakened something

 Re: Generator Trouble
Also I see you have 3 cords. Make sure your not pulling to many amps for plugs. The smaller generators usually have 15 or 20 amp plugs. Or one large 30 plug. Check that. Cuz even 6 would be to many amps on a 15amp

 Re: Generator Trouble

 Re: Generator Trouble
I might try 4 cords to see if that helps. They are the $12 lights from Home Depot, cant remember the brand.

 Re: Generator Trouble
If they are halogen lights, take out the 500 watt bulbs and put in 300 watt bulbs. Can't tell the difference and will give you 1400 watts to play with. Less strain on your generator too. And buy extras

 Re: Generator Trouble
I run 8 300w halos and couldn't be happier on a 3500w genny and you also need to keep your genny pushing at less 80% of your max watts it will last you longer………

You really aren't gonna notice the difference from a 500 to a 300.

 Re: Generator Trouble
Nah I've done pretty well with it so far. Already had the generator, bought the lights for $12 each, and already had the wood to make the stand for the lights. Most expensive thing was definitely the 2 bows.
