There is talk of adding tree ducks to the teal season bag limit. That would be nice since we are covered with them over here for teal season but then they bug out just before the regular season. I think that it will not happen soon but it would be nice, hell they just started showing up in my area about 5 years ago. When we are frogging you can see hens gathered up with their broods together and you can grab as many as you wanted to if you wanted to.

Never killed a tree duck. Like you, we been getting them here for a few years now but they leave right before the season kicks off.

we are talking about Black Bellied Whistlers correct? They have them all over Houston during the summer.... Saw them when I was there on a job couple years back and could not figure out what they were till we asked a local GW.

Yes I'm talking about black bellied whistlers, but they could add in woodies as well. People already kill them weather it be on purpose or accident it happens during teal season.

Yeah, BBW's are all over this area, would be nice to get a crack at on or two of them before the fly south every october.

Before Ike we blasted them at the start of the regular duck season. Was not anything to come out of there with 25-30 Black Bellies and Fulvus tree ducks per hunt. Did not see but a few this past season. Need to go out and check out the lease and see if they are coming back.

Same here.... When all the floatin turf blew out of our lease - due to Ike
they relocated - but we had about a thousand resident Black Bellies that
did not migrate but stayed year round and bred like rabbits... Now they
are all over detention ponds around the populated areas....

Really its either a pond to catch rain runoff to ease the strain on drainage systems or a shit pond for gray water,phuck I do not know we got ditches where I live.

i emailed a wildlife and fisheries agent and they said adding woodies and tree ducks was out of the question for several years. i guess yall need to work on yalls identification skills or mudstompin skills until then lol

Are they any good to eat? There are a few dozen that are in the pond here just about all year. Every evening they fly in and roost. Loud and crazy flying birds.

woodies are some of the best eatin as far as ducks go. not sure about a tree duck

i guess it would depend on what they are feedin on. a brown pelican would taste good if he was acorn fed.

So Jace, by your posting, they are legal to shoot there in TX. Are they shootable in the same season as all other ducks or a different split? What's the daily bag there?

we can kill 6 during regular duck season. We see a bunch of them during the first month and then the numbers decline later in the season.
