Post Shreveport/Bossier area
Just wondering if anyone in the area knows of any companys hiring, mainly oilfield. But I'll consider others because I'm in need of a job pretty badly. I've been around town to quite a few places and filled out applications but no luck. Figure I'd ask here since there are some people from this area on here.
I'm 19 and have a high-school diploma.

Thanks,
Cody.

You should have no problem getting a job with an oilfield service company. May be grunt work at first, but could lead to a company job.

I've been to quite a few oil field places and they were only hiring people that were 21 with a cdl. I'm going job hunting again tomorow to apply at some places.

And I've thought about college but i have no clue what i want to be.

Don't know of any right off hand but if I hear of anything I'll holla at you. Things are kinda slow for everyone except the gas folks.

Go to the Chesapeake website. My wife works for Great Plains. They own a majority of the companies around in the oil field. I know they have some openings in Marshall. They have openings all over. The last time I looked they had around 280 openings company wide and a lot of them were in this area. Some of the companies they have around here are Top Hat, Midcon, Great Plains, Nomac.

Another avenue you might want to pursue.... you could go be a roustabout for a producer in the area. they make decent money for your age, then you're a shoe-in for a pumper job when you get some experience. not a bad place to be. there's hundreds of production companies, and growing every day in the Shreveport area. Petrohawk, Chesapeake, EOG, etc.... big producers. I see pumpers out in the field every now and then that are your age.

I know this probably not what you want to hear, and not what you asked about, but I'd strongly reccomend getting a little higher education. I know it probably seems like a big waste of time right now. I know, because I barely talked myself into going when I got out of high school. but in the long run, it's completely worth it. promise. I know a BUNCH of guys that went through the corrosion tech program at Kilgore College that have done very well for themselves, and had great paying jobs right out of college, and it only took them 2 years. as far as I'm concerned, student loans are low intrest, and completely acceptable debt to have.

So what are some good things to go to college for? And I don't mean like doctors and physical therapists, but something in the oilfield.

Chemist/engineer stuff can take you lots of different places.

Like I said earlier, corrosion is 2 years at our local junior college.

Most of the big oil companies have recruiters that pick kids up straight out of college. Get in touch with some of them and see what they look for. They have intern programs for college kids too.

Just checking to see if anyone knows of anything, I applied at a place today and he said I can have the job but he'll have to check the age requirement on the insurance to drive a truck hauling a goose-neck delivering parts.

But I figured i'd see if y'all may have heard of anything since i last checked this thread.
