my truck blew a head gasket at 19,000...

first MM I had was a briggs 16 hp lt. blew a head gasket. other than that ran great. 15 years ago.

Crack block.......flaten a cam...broke 20 case bolts....all in less than 10 hours adn 2 rebuilds....but it was the motor not the mods

one day i found out that a 27 kohler lt will not run without a muffler. but it will run with 3 holes in the muffler and the oil full of water.

cracked blocks are bad OK,modded motors are the devil.

I want to here of a Stage 1,2,or 3 blowing.. And what reason it blew.

mine was a stage 1 for 80 or so hrs and a stage 2 for less than 10.

Mine went VROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM........ clink.... CLINK... CLUNK!!!!!!!! that pretty much explains it.

Best I've got to add on the topic is a cracked oil sump and some knocking. It still ran decent, but it got to the point where I couldn't tell if the rainbow in my roostertail was from the sun or the sump! LOL

That is my old motor!! My new onw well its old now will be around for a long time!! I had a hole in the boot to my carb that leand out the cylinder

LEAN!! That combustion chamber and piston show different.

That gorge you see in the middle of the piston is not a hole that was burned into it from being lean more like detonation and the connecting rod being shoved through it from more than likely being siezed in the cylinder from overheating. That is not a Briggs piston that I see there, looks more like a Generac piston which is alot bigger. Alot more things to consider if that is the case. That little leak in the boot would mostly affect the motor at idle not at 2000 plus rpms.

Either way I think he wins!!!! One big bomb.

Maybe Radikkle will chime in, he's got a story I was there to watch some of them bolts flying off.

15 hrs...was still running hard...started smelling oil burning with alot of smoke, killed the engine, then the click, clack, pop , tink was the crack finding it self around the whole block. absolutely no internal parts damaged.....proir to that, i had 8 bolts break on 3 different outings, this motor was a stage 3+ built by evt...but i can say was a massive beast while it was running....got 42.7mph our of it on a 1748 skiff and pulled like a 90 merc out the hole

I got 16 hours out of my stage 3, broke cam,stud pulled out of the head and left 2 inch hole,5 crank case gaskets,several bolts that fell out or broke off in block,and a cracked crank case.this all happend around 3500-3700 rpm.

Were did the parts come from on that stage 3?

Was there any warranty? If not, WHY?

The motor ran fine until that never had a nock or noise come out of it!! Either the hole came from comming across the lake with the carb weight pulling down on it with the rough water!! OOOOOrrr the other thing waas the connecting rod bolt broke!!

This is all kind of interestin' but I gots a querston that has came up 'round our camp a couple different times ..... Please do note that I ain't tryin' to put a stir in the pot !!!!!
