I just got my motor back fom having heads pulled to check for muffler slag.(spark plug gap kept closing) Well i put my new marsh mellow on and cranked her up.Sounded great.I then put her in the water and tried to take off and my motor will not exceed 2000rpm's. Seems to be same symptoms but my spark plugs are not smashing.I am getting fire to both plugs,but if i pull the right wire while running she keeps ticking.If i pull the left wire while running she kills.I do notice that in nuetral my rpm's are only 3900 reved all the way.Maybe i lost a few hundred do to new muffler,but i cannot get up and run.PLEASE ANYONE HELP ME.(Its almost as if i lost a cylinder)

Sounds like a bad coil, but I'm no motor guru! Someone will chime in.

When you say left wire.... Are you in the boat looking at the fly wheel? Or are you behind the motor looking at the muffler?

The only reason i ask is... It seems as if my left coil (If you looking at the flywheel) is intermittent and works when it wants to.

If i pull the left wire the motor keeps running but doesnt run that rough. If i pull the right wire, it just dies.

Im in the boat looking from front. I also moved tach to other spark plug wire and have the same wfo rpms.This was the first time i ran boat in a month on same fuel.What do yall think.

Sounds like a bad coil on cylinder #2.

Check and make sure the pushrods on that cylinder are still in the rockers, being that head was removed.

How does the motor sound? Is it running rough, does it hesitate and want to die when your increasing the throttle? Or does it run fine until you hit 2000 rpms. It might be as simple as a dirty carb needle or idle jet. or even a bad diode.

Sounds like a bad diode to me. I've had it happen twice. It's easy to fry it.

Sounds like a bad diode to me unplug them and run the motor it doesn't need them to run its just to kill the engine by grounding out the fire when you ground the switch if one is bad it will kill that side during that rotation of the flywheel by bleeding through the other diode.

Pull ur valve cover.

It ain't coil or diode related if ur tach worked on that plug wire.
