Post Is it enough engine?
Ok so I have a question for all the experts out there. I'm looking at buying a 1780 polar kraft 17x48". It currently has a beavertail 24 longtail on the back the boat and engine are nearly brand new.
My question is...Is this enough motor? Wanting to use for duck hunting, probably 2 guys at the most on most trips with deeks etc. The current owner has used it only a few times and has been in the garage ever since, it looks brand new . The price is right I think..$6000.00 boat motor trailer blind. I hate to pass it up but want to make sure its enough to push it like it should I'm new to mud motors/mud boats planning on taking it out to test drive soon. Thanks for all the advice!

sure there is a few guys that can tell you more than me, but..

won't be a speed demon but should push it with that load.

buddy has a 27 beavertail on a 1748 and it runs nice.. maybe 20 unloaded..

i would guess (depending on boat style, weight etc...) 18-20 unloaded and 15-18 with your load...

My 24 longtail pushes my 1650 (actually measures 51 at the bottom) around 18 mph, but you will lose quickly with a load, 2 guys about 15, 3 about 12. That boat can handle a 35 hp.

Are you happy with the 24 HP LT or would you go bigger? I'm just trying to figure out if I should grab a boat and add the Motor that I really need or if the 24 beavertail will do the trick, also are there mods that can be done to the 24 to add power....I really appreciate the input from everyone, I'm new to mud boats and want to get the right one to duck hunt in.

I think 6 grand is a lot to spend on a mis matched package. Where are you located?
