 Valve clearance
Would I be correct in assuming that the best valve clearance setting for a CDI motor with heads, carb and exhaust be .005?
Thanks.

 Re: Valve clearance
.004-.006 is the Range. .005 is the happy medium.. From what I recall .004 is for a tad more speed, .006 is for more Tq.

 Re: Valve clearance
Stumpy help me set mine and gapped them at .005. He said thats what he ran. after 95 hours of never being adjusted they were at .007 It used to blow black smoke on startups. since we adjusted them no more smoke.

 Re: Valve clearance
Thats probably why my old motor ran like shit at 200 hrs. lol
What would yall say should be a maximum amount of hours to run a modded motor in between checking valve clearance levels?

 Re: Valve clearance
I set mine at .005. Runs great. It's at the shop getting some mods done to it right now. I'll do what Unles J said and check them 15 hrs or so, then let her run!

 Re: Valve clearance
not to hijack your thread but how do you check valve clearance/adjust valves? Is this something I should take to a mechanic? I have very basic knowledge of this stuff

 Re: Valve clearance
Its not a big deal to check them. Takes all of about 20-30 minutes to do after a couple times. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hGkn0jR9RJM
