Post CDI Vanguard 35 oil pressure sensor
I just got a CDI vanguard 35 and noticed that it didn't have the oil pressure sensor with the wire coming out. It had a little plug but Clint at MB said that was just an oil plug. They said that the new CDI engine doesn't have an oil pressure sensor. Is that true? What if the oil pump fails, or the oil level gets low...is there a backup plan for low oil pressure?

Thanks!

That is true. You can buy one and install it if you want. Its basically an idiot light and many times will trip in the middle of the summer. It was an option on the vanguard engines and is not part of the 194 model.

If your oil level gets too low then you are not checking it- the only way for it to get dangerously low would be - you missed the oil pouring out the motor or you forgot to put it in.

oil sensors are a pain in the ass,had them on old LT's that I had Honda and briggs. They went out on all the engines they were on. I disconnected the wires and checked the oil never burned one up and they never left me stranded

do yourself a favor and get an oil temp sensor and stick in that spot.... knowing temps is a lot better than have a damn plug just sit there for nothing...

I over heated one and scored the cylinders and turned the wrist pins blue.... odd thing is it still ran and made it back to the launch to get me home.... phew

I have the shindy pro digital temp gauge.... by the water temp sensor... the probe is 1/8"NPT that you will need to go to lowes and buy a cheap brass bushing to adapt of the larger threads in your block...

Part# 17-850

Details here: http://shindypro.com/catalog/each_q_ptype.key25.html

They also have some nice stuff out there that can do temps and rpms all on one screen.... just find them kinda pricey to put on a mud motor or airboat... most of these are built for bikes and scooters...

Also if ya get there digital tach you have a matching set...

And are they waterproof? Can they be mounted on the motor and exposed to all weather?

Good info- what is the 'normal' running temp on a Briggs?

Ask Poker1. He has the big oil cooler and a temp gauge (i believe)..... but his motor isnt bone stock either though.

BasinLovers engine isnt stock either. I dont know much effect mods have in creating heat. I think it has more to do with Engine speed, airflow, and ambient temps. This is assuming you have a properly tuned engine....with the correct AF ratio!

True but, if your turnin more RPM you are creating more friction and more friction would mean a higher oil temp. Wouldn't it?
