 Re: Boaters Rescued
My dad always made us wear life jackets and it is now habit to me. Most of my friends do not bother with them, but I'll wear mine and look like a dork.

 Re: Boaters Rescued
I don't want to offend anyone, but hey, there is no question it WILL save your life. I would vote to make it mandatory that every single person in the next La Mud Run, or any mud run, commit to wearing a life vest and kill switch. After all, its mandated by law. Anyone not making such a commitment would be discouraged from participating.
We should have safety police and trash police on these mud runs, ie sort of like mardis gras captains only sober.
I'm trying to be nice, but I'm a real asshole when it comes to safety.

 Re: Boaters Rescued
to me no one looks like a dork if it increases the chance of saving your life or someone elses.............they wouldnt make em if it wouldnt....i put mine on it doesnt make you less "cool" so to speak, nothing wrong with wearing your kill switch, wouldnt be "cool" to fall over and get you ass chopped off...

 Re: Boaters Rescued
I wear the suspenders when I'm by myself they auto inflate when submerged and will right you in the water... I wear them all the time on the big boat. It's a rule in many fishing tournaments that you must wear PFD while the big motor is running.

 Re: Boaters Rescued
DIsn't drive. My son did and he never drinks and drives. He can't even drink cause he's in training for fall baseball at his university. I did enjoy every sip of beer I had, though.
I am not a hippopotamus.

 Re: Boaters Rescued
Just cause this thread is already so far off topic, I figured I'd throw this back out there. Picked off the tpwd website, just couldn't find it the other day when we were discussing it...
Can my driver's license be suspended if I'm arrested for operating a boat while intoxicated?
Yes. Effective 9/1/2001, a person's drivers license will be automatically suspended if the arrested person:
* Is operating a watercraft powered with an engine having a manufacturer's rating of 50 horsepower or above; and * The person refuses to provide a specimen (breath or blood) to determine intoxication.
The period of suspension for 1st time offenders is 180 days.

 Re: Boaters Rescued
I dont think anybody looks like a dork --- I used to not wear my kill switch but I do now after a friend of mine flew out of his boat and was hanging on by one hand and somehoe pulled himself back up. If he had been wearing a kill switch then the boat would have stopped and he could have gotten back in.
I dont like wearing life vests -- They are uncomfortable to me and I dont feel as I have a full range of motion with them on.
If it becomes a law I will wear one out of necessity but not out of choice,
