 Re: generac engine
go for it.... there is a handful of us on here that run Generacs...
the 44HP is a 33HP that has the NG pistons installed to build compression... swap out the stock carb for a mikuni and rock and roll....
if ya want a little more info on the Generac give EVT a call...

 Re: generac engine
drake1... will give you the details but as far as mods to the lower unit.... i think its just a matter of drilling 4 new holes in the baseplate and mounting the engine... the shaft height is the same as the briggs and make sure you get the 1-1/8" shaft and the pulley should go right on.... like I said give EVT a call...

 Re: generac engine
I am not sure about the horizontal engine, but the verticals bolt patterns are all the same for briggs, kohler, generac. I changed out my kohler 27 for a generac, i didn't get the 44 because it only has a 1 year warranty thru that guys shop in Iowa. The stock 40 has 2 year warranty thru any generac dealer. Mike with EVT business partner is a generac dealer, for all of those that say it's hard to find parts.

 Re: generac engine
Willet will be able to tell you that soon. I can tell you that my Genny is pulling harder than any Briggs that I had. The exhaust will really have to flow to get it up to the 5000 rpm range. Mine is pulling hard with a 12X10 big blade to 4700 rpms. The motor has 31 hours on it now and I have been hard on it. knock on wood not a bolt has come loose or a single gasket leak. The bottom end and mid range are what is seperating this motor from the Briggs, the Genny just has more. The price tag on parts and comlete engines are nice as well. Stage II Generac including powerhead is $4500 where a Briggs was at a minimum $5600.

 Re: generac engine
can't say exact numbers but it is pulling harder than the 65hp briggs that we built.

 Re: generac engine
keep running into delays on yours for some reason. Biggest delay seems to be waiting on the actual motor to show up!

 Re: generac engine
hahahaha..... what the hell have you started Mike... everybody wants a Generac these days... mine will be purring come next Monday... I will do some video of it spinning my prop and RPM on the trailer vs gained RPM on the water.... on average with the old Briggs I gained about 100rpm on the water vs the trailer
as far as HP I did some estimating today after speaking with Mike... and looking at some old figures and things.... I would say these Generacs are making 70HP easily at 4600RPM.... and well over 80ft lbs at 3000rpm...
now this is not guaranteed numbers just a little playing around today knowing what EVT got out of the old Stage II Briggs and knowing how Mikes and my motors are built... I am sure he is making a little more power than me since he has a few other minor things that we did not do to my engine...

 Re: generac engine
I'm running a generac on my GTR and its running well so far. Still have to get my exhaust, thats whats holding it back right now. Had it in the mud this morning and it does just fine. Top speed was a little over 30 in the skinny and 28 in deep water. With me and one passenger, beer and gear it'll do 27 in deep water. The motor is turning 3600-3700 rpms. The motor still has more but I'm not going after it at the moment. Its running just fine.

 Re: generac engine
nope.... its this one http://www.generac.com/PublicPDFs/0171700SBY.pdfbut it is 40HP Max and 33HP Continuous now.... not 32HP as this flyer is the old 2004 model... the 33HP model number is now 0054421 which is the new 2010 model number.... if you look around on the net it is still 0054420 which was used up to June of this year.

Is anybody playing around with bringing one of these out as alternative to Briggs? Gator Tail, MB or PD?

 Re: generac engine
doubtful since Generac is not the most user friendly motor... hard to find parts... and if you are not a dealer with ++++++ sales the the factory doesn't like to deal with you

 Re: generac engine
Willit...god rest your motor!!!! brlcla......he was saying if you are scared dont do it......see if you catch this....you must swallow cuz your chin is clean ... did DDm teach you that Mike looks like you getting people to finaly turn your way. Hope they keep holding up.....but if the Briggs is so bad why are the BPS motors not busting blocks? is it the compression diff, RMP diff, or HP dif....or are they busting???? its also nice to see the price tag for the stage 2 Gen is way down from the Briggs...that should move more people that direction if they need the punishment. Later and good luck to all.

 Re: generac engine
what the hell are you talking about.... the guy asked if one of the "big three" were looking at replacing the briggs with a generac option... all i said was not likely since Generac themselves can be a pain to deal with....
just because your old motor didn't work out for you does not give you the reason to talk sh*t... also if you pay attention to other forums you will find out BPS has some issues also... and not all the people posting on here have a motor from Mike... which goes to tell ya its just a better motor that the paper thin briggs blocks....

yep...just gladI i didnt eat them......how does it taste Can you tell me if the gen stage 2 is putting out the same compression the brigs stage 2 did? Wonder if they are going as extream as they did with the brigs motors.

 Re: generac engine
No one fed me any bullshit about my generac I knew what I was getting. Hoyt and I talked about this long before the threads started showing up on here. I have had two briggs 35's and had trouble with both of them stock. I wanted to try something differant and I will see how it goes.

 Re: generac engine
Compression or the build did not break the blocks, bolts coming out of the cover did. Out of the 7 blocks that did break all seven shared the same thing in common including yours Brink the bolts came out of the cover. The cover loses clamp, the crank continues to want to move in the opposite direction of the torque and when it can't move anymore either the cover will crack or the block will. Keep those duals on your barge stock and you my man will be just fine.
