Ducks Unlimited flooding alternative habitats for oil spill
Ducks Unlimited was granted a 2.5 million dollar fund to help provide alternative habitats for waterfowl and other migratory birds to prevent them from traveling to the marshes that could have oil in it. I am not sure if this will help or hinder us during the upcoming ducks season. Will they actually flood more rice and fields in general to provide more habitat?

Re: Ducks Unlimited flooding alternative habitats for oil sp
Thank God for that.......with the coast being saturated with ankle deep oil this should provide an excellent alternative for migrating waterfowl.

Re: Ducks Unlimited flooding alternative habitats for oil sp
yea but how much will it help for folks that hunt that knee deep timber. I mean if it keeps ducks from traveling that far it could make for a jam up season cause ducks have to hit that timber some time

Re: Ducks Unlimited flooding alternative habitats for oil sp
i dont thinks its stupid i think it will help alot. i mean flooding more fields can be one of two things. bad ass cause ducks will stay there or it wont hurt cause they will stick there habit of flying south. but more ducks means better hunting and people will fork out the money to hunt thoes flooded fields

Why do so many people think they are above everything? I mean really, does it make dem feel like they are da allmighty or sumthin? Tryin to control wildlife migration patterns should be left to mother nature.

Re: Ducks Unlimited flooding alternative habitats for oil sp
its gunna hurt us too bud, look at mollicy above the pipeline, there are thousands of ducks that stay there all day long because its safe. If they have open water, food, and nobody botherin them there is no reason to leave other than instinct. Bluewing teal, gadwalls, and a few others will go regardless. Someone correct me if im wrong but the oil isnt goin inland where most stay at right? Duck season is still a couple months away so maybe they can get it all. DU needs a swift kick in the ass if they do this. All these years DU and the Government has been more geared to protection than production. Lets go kill some Cyoyotes and whatnot up there so more than 15% leave the nest and do away with half the refuges.
Out of breath, Woodie

Re: Ducks Unlimited flooding alternative habitats for oil sp
I dont like DU no more than anyone else. But they help us more than they hurt us. I mean u say they wont leave the fields but wether they flood more or not ducks still have plenty of places that no body bothers them and we still smoke the mallards in the timber and i hunt public land. and they do try help increasin the population but there is only so much they can do and money wont solve every problem that migratory birds have.

Re: Ducks Unlimited flooding alternative habitats for oil sp
Last year we had record rains and everything was flooded above the coast. Birds still came down to the coast and the birds that did not were just spread out.

I was only joking about the oil along the coast. Ducks would be pretty hard pressed to find oil.

Re: Ducks Unlimited flooding alternative habitats for oil sp
DU is helping more than they are hurting anything and i support delta waterfowl. and i actually think this flooding might make it better. but if thats what they do with 2.5 million dollars then oh well its helping the habitat. and u that think they are doin that all up north yur letting that mouth get ahead of youself they said they were goin to flood more of the rice region and talkin about louisiana texas and arkansas

Re: Ducks Unlimited flooding alternative habitats for oil sp
You may hate DU but they help ducks more than anything. DU aint doin this up north this is for down in the south. For texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas. This i belive wont ruin anything. Cause ducks have a natural habit to go SOUTH. and more flooded food aint goin to stop them from doin so. Hell we had a shit ton of water last year and plenty of ducks were still killed and they still killed way down south even though everything was flooded

DU is fukkin with their natural flyway --- PERIOD
Leave the natural migration alone. Thats why we dont see ducks like we did years ago.

Re: Ducks Unlimited flooding alternative habitats for oil sp
well aint u such a big kid. i never talked them up. All i said was them spending money on flooding more food sources was pointless. The ducks will still fly south. And even if they did sit on place that no one could hunt still wont matter same amount of ducks will b killed. ducks have a natural flight pattern so why would they stop that pattern if thats what they been doin for all these years

they do mess things up by keeping fields from freezing up and thats one reason we dont get the big numbers

Re: Ducks Unlimited flooding alternative habitats for oil sp
I have 2 questions.... How many spots does DU have or have their nose in that are open to public hunting? And what are the addresses to these wonderful duck filled lands in which I can hunt??

Greenhead
Can you name me 10 things that DU has done to help public hunting land in Louisiana. Or better yet -- that was done to ONLY benifit public hunting land -- Not helpin it as a byproduct of helping some private land owner.
Oh and when you figure out you cant -- maybe you will wipe that cum off your chin

They've done plenty for the big money hunters. A ton of the work they do is on private land, and big money leases...

Just found out the other day that BP has paid for some fields to be flooded on my lease here in Nome, right outside of Beaumont. Thanks for the water guys!
