Intake question. Looking for y'alls opinion
Which is the better intake in your opinion and why? The EVT intake, or the BPS Black Death?? I have the EVT on my motor now. But i also have the black death intake that I haven't tried yet. I'm waiting on a few parts before I can try out the Black Death.
I'm just wondering what everyone's opinion was on these 2 setups?

Re: Intake question. Looking for y'alls opinion
I needed some gaskets and the rubber boot to attach the carb to the intake. Waiting to hear back from Kieth on that rubber boot.

its up to you smoke to tell AMERICA what the difference is.. So, get the parts you need, and put it to the test.

Re: Intake question. Looking for y'alls opinion
The bps intake looks like its an adapter that goes on the stock intake. Is it not? I thought you got a whole new intake that completely replaced the stocker for 750 from EVT. Am I wrong? Is it the same type thing, something that bolts on to the stock intake?

Re: Intake question. Looking for y'alls opinion
$775 plus shipping now with our new Black Death cast intake manifold http://www.mudbuddy.com/Performance%20E ... 0Parts.htmI just cut and paste this from their website. Just happened to notice it tonight. I bought the 42 from a BPS dealer I am friends with, but I am replacing my intake. It wasn't planned, but I had lost a lot of bottom end, and when I took everything off, I noticed I had driven one of the bolts through the intake! The intake is shot! You really have to be gentle with these engines. Snug up the bolts and leave it! I have learned the hard way...unfortunately on several occasions. I have to Heli coil two area's on my valve covers for the same reason...snapped the bolt right off!

Yeah, I know, but look at it. Doesn't look nearly wide enough to mount on the heads. Looks like it mounts on the stock intake.

Re: Intake question. Looking for y'alls opinion
Looks like it would sit on top of this not replace it... Not the best example, but the only real pic I could find. This has "arms" if you will that reach out and mount to the heads. That bps thing is not nearly wide enough to replace the stock intake.

It just mounts on the intake and makes the 90 degree turn for the mikuni on the horizontal motors.

I couldn't figure out what they were trying to do with that thing. I think Owen just solved that question. I have a custom SS intake being put on by a local guy who makes them.

Thats what I thought. So its an adapter, not an intake? Doesn't the evt kit come with a whole new intake?

Re: Intake question. Looking for y'alls opinion
I've heard that without major mods, the aftermarket intake is not necessary and may cause a loss of bottom end. I think BPS does not include an intake with their kit in order to make it more of a bolt-on kit that works best for the majority of people that order them. But I do think they make it a little confusing on what exact intake pieces come with their kits.

we have modded a few horizontals using an EVT vertical intake and a custom made adapter. super crisp throttle response and no loss of bottom end power.

Re: Intake question. Looking for y'alls opinion
Thats the same thing I heard Wilson, about possibly loosing a little bottom end. Thats the main reason that I want to try this intake. And I saw that someone had posted wondering about what parts I was waiting on. I had to order the rubber boot that mounts the carb to the intake. As soon as I get that in, I'm gonna swap out the intake and see how it does. I ordered a new boot instead of taking the one off of the EVT setup because if I decide to sell either of the intakes, I want whoever buys it to have a complete intake.

Re: Intake question. Looking for y'alls opinion
I have ran both intakes on a GTR. With the BPS, I lost a little top end(4900 rpm) but is much better on the bottom. I did open up the BPS a little though.

Re: Intake question. Looking for y'alls opinion
I read that BD intake adapter was designed with flow meters to maximize the velocity and distribute the flow to both sides a little differently. The BPS kit comes with an intake adapter that has a split in it and a flange adapter that bolts to the stock intake manifold. There are pictures of the kit on their site with all the parts laid out. I just did one for a buddy this weekend.
Here is the Black Death intake adapter:

Re: Intake question. Looking for y'alls opinion
Before I went full out on stage, 3 I ran the old bps with stock intake againts the evt. I was running a evt high flow quite muffler and 45 mm mukuni.
on a heavy 20x60 custom boat ( the designed that the gator tail extreme was copied after). The bps had a much better hole shot and responce, the evt had 150 more rpm at the top. The additonal rpm made no differance on the speed. I was running the go-devil 3 blade prop and stock block and hiting 27 or so . I stayed with the evt because I knew I would do pistons cam and roller rockers later. That got me only an extrra 250 or 300 rpm and may be 2.5 mph to 3 mph It was a whole lot of money for a extra 2.5 mph but I could touch on 31 mph with just me in the boat under perfect contitions.
I have a black death comeing this week. Unless you are going full bore ( I suggest you don't I am on my 3rd rebuid in under 50 hours) stay with the bps. The black death is suposed to solve a lean condition in one of the cyl.
You won't have to trim your engine shroud with the bps!
The evt sweats all the time for some reason the stock one does't, I don't know what that means but it does happen

Re: Intake question. Looking for y'alls opinion
My EVT sweats alot! Always has. I'm hoping that I can get the shroud to work with the BPS intake adapter after I had to do some cutting on it. I actually was gonna buy the camo shroud kit until I was told that it is an exchange program. You buy the camo shrouds, but you gotta give them your shrouds. And since I cut mine, it's not able to be exchanged.

Re: Intake question. Looking for y'alls opinion
Unfortunately I won't be able to give review of the intake i am putting on bc I am having my heads worked on at the same time. Heads are being bored for the larger SS valves. After that and the Mikuni I am done. The only thing I haven't done are the push rods, pistons and any block work. Not going there!

Re: Intake question. Looking for y'alls opinion
So with the new black death intake, there is no need to port the stock intake anymore? Looks like it sits directly over the stock holes.

Re: Intake question. Looking for y'alls opinion
I cant speak for the BD side becasue i havent seen that intake yet.. but if you have your heads done you should atleast gasket match the stock intake (head) side. There is a pretty big mismatch between ported heads and the stock intake. Youll lose alot of performance if you dont port that side. Just make sure you dont port the intake to much going into the heads the air will hit a wall going into the heads if you go to big. Either match it to the gasket perfectly or go slightly smaller. A little smaller is better then too big on the intake, its gotta match or be smaller going into the head.

[quote="SP"Heads are being bored for the larger SS valves[/quote]
are they simply cutting the existing seats or boring and completely changing to an oversize seat?

Re: Intake question. Looking for y'alls opinion
Gecker has done all of the mods on my motor and is doing my heads and intake now. I know many of the members have had a bad experience with him, but I have not. I was running 22-23 with a full duck hunting load with 2 guys and a dog deepnwater before my mods last year, and I am now running 27-28 with the same load. He decked my heads last year, but I stayed with the stock size SS valves. Decided to go a little further.

Re: Intake question. Looking for y'alls opinion
I got the black death in yesterday. Its a nice looking set up. It makes each runner longer, and moves the intake port closer to the carb and smooths out the flow lines. The stock intake has a smaller dia than evt , it should realy build bottom end and midrange. What needs to be done is to flow bench a set of heads, both modded and stock. If your intake flows too much more than the heads you lose midrange and bottom end and smoothness and mpg's. If the intake does not flow near what the heads and valve train /cam set up can handle you lose top end and hp. It will be a couple of weeks but I will give a report when I am up and runnning.
