 Re: Hunt decks
Nothing....turns as well as a round chine. Nothing. The extreme hulls may turn sufficiently enough, but it still aint a round chine.
For those of you that posted about how long you been driving and "knowing how to drive" makes a difference in turning a square chine or taper chine, you are right....sorta.
What you are doing to help the boat turn is letting off the throttle. For anyone who says differently, hasn't given much thought as to what was actually taking place or why they were able to make the boat turn. When you let off the throttle do you think that all of a sudden the boat becomes magic or is "paralyzed" by your extreme driving skills and suddenly won't slide??? Of course not, the boat is SINKING INTO THE WATER DEEPER and letting the chine under the water level and allowing the water to grab the boat so it won't slide out of control into a tree or on the bank. Thats not really ideal. drafting MORE water at a time when every bit counts!
Here is another flaw in the ol "stick time" theory. When you are on a mud run with a prepared course, you can think ahead and prepare for a turn. What happens in the dark, when something unexpected happens. It happens EVERY mud run I ever been to. Somebody starts sliding and darn near kills somebody. I know you guys WANT them to not slide....with all your hearts. But, they do. Period.
The numbers WE have are slightly different than muddoctors, it's less than 1/4 inch of difference. First of all you are comparing a 44" bottom to a 48" bottom. That kinda blows the theory outta the water anyway. If you were gonna use two different boats, why didnt you test the 50" against your 48"? Never mind, I know why.
Huntdecks dont have a cut back transom, never built a single one with it. So thats out. The huntdeck never had anything to do with performance other than the displacing of more water, which can be done with a longer boat. It was born for flotation reasons and the rest of the advantages were lagniappe. It certainly wasn't to "stay competitive". Thats just silly. You think we CAN'T build a square chine boat? Its the easiest boat and most labor free boat there is to build. It SHOULD be cheaper. It's mostly built when ya get the sheet! Taper chines are certainly not an issue. Built them for PD for the first year and a half they were in business. We don't do it because we don't believe in using that style of hull for optimum shallow water performance, that's it. We like the control of the boat at ANY moment, whether the man can drive or not, he wont lose it in a Gator Trax. And we put that level of importance higher on the priority list than 1/4" less drag and .8 of a mph. That simple, nothing more.
There's plenty of customers to go around for everyone and I'm not trying to tell someone they are "screwing up" buying a square or taper chine hull. Just want to make sure the DISINFORMATION is held at a status quo minimum.
I dont "hate" anyones boats. I get along with most all the major manufctureres. PD makes a HELL of a good boat. Gator Tail and Go Devil too. Fine vessels. Excel makes a good boat as well. I'm not familiar with some of the custom boats ya'll mention on here, but 10 years ago, no one knew who Gator Trax was either. Any of these guys taking orders one at a time, building custom hulls for guys, are doing a GREAT service, they are craftsmen bordering on artists. Dont' think so, try it. Not one, try it for a living.
My hat is off to all the manufacturers that are making a living feeding their families the same way I do, offereing what the customer wants and watching him enjoy it. Life is good. God is good.
PS, i can tell you that deadbird8 not only did that math himself, but can explain it you if YOU don't understand it. He surely does.

 Re: Hunt decks
I understand PW. No reason to argue over the same issues. Just wanted to at least speak up for myself. I did that, you respectfully answered, and should be commended for it. You have to sell your stuff just like I have to sell my stuff. Heres something to remember though, these guys on here, not all of them, but some of them, don't have to ask what works best anymore, they already know. They run em. Also, this "internet thing" has taken care of a lot of "not knowing the facts" The flip side is, that is also spews a lot of misdirection, slight of hand, and marketing tactics that sound good to those that don't know the facts. That group is getting smaller and smaller. It's hard to come on here and tell someone that their boat aint gonna work for them, and they need one of yours UNLESS THAT IS TRUE! PW, I think you and I, as boat builders, providing HIGH DOLLAR goods to people have GOT to 1. be honest 2. continue to build a quality product 3. not try to burn each other down every chance we get, (it gets old even to these guys) 4. let the chips fall where they may.
I wish your company the BEST of success. Like I said, there are lots of guys wanting new boats, no need to try to harm someone else's dinner table in order to overload our own. Have a great duck season!!!!!

 Re: Hunt decks
another 2 cents from mines experiences in life ...... It's always mo-better to put yore design on paper with all the figures .... on anythang .. i.e. ~ DuckByrd blinds, Pole Barns, Bridges that cross creeks, SwangSets fo children, CampHouses, and all the thangs thats gonna be built .... even BoatHulls. EVERYTHANG ... I mean EVERYTHANG has to be racked, adjusted, shimed, bent, to adchieved the desired finish product. Thats why you gots "Designers" and you gots "Fabercators" ...... and that is a .............. Matr-Fact !!!!!!
