Post how does weight
How does weight affect a mud motor?

I have a 17x54 with a 25 pd on it. B4 I lost weight i could run 24 mph with it empty and just me in it. I have lost 60lbs and my boy has lost 25 lbs, so how does weight translate into mph?

You will gain .68734 mph, and no you can't have my secret formula for figuring that out.

Ya'll could take turns jumping out while the other one reads the gps, then add it up to see what happened

maybe I should have made it a little clearer. I dont care how fast my rig is going right now the 25 hp aint gonna go but so fast. What I would like to know is !!!!!! how weight reduces speed or increases speed with the addition of or removal of it. I might be buying another rig and was just wondering about the weight issues

I think you know the answer.

More weight will make you go faster

Less weight you will go sooo much slower

Lighter is better if it will hold up.. 20+ years ago I built and desgined a hull for 25 hp long tails made out of kevlar. It was 17'x50" with slight v up front than transitioned to 2 " high pad. Kind of like the extreme but prettier. We used corecell foam instead of wood . It weighed 300 to 350 lbs.

It out ran 98% of the other boats out there, the rigs that were light enough to beat it did not hold up. With long tails you had a top end in the low 20's due to design ( no gear reduction so the prop , had to be keep small to carry a load.)

It may have been only 2 or 3 mph faster top end, but where it realy made a differance was in the shit, mud or vegs! It would keep going when other boats would have to chew their way out.

A 3 cyl outboad on the same hull was scary with just one guy. There were no gps back then ,but I am guessing 35 to 40 with the outboard.
