Installed the Mikuni and finally the Marshmellow
I kept using the 2 year warranty as an excuse to leave it stock, but reading previous Mikuni posts on here drove me to buy one.
I wasn't sure I would be able to bolt it on and have it crank up on the first try, but after a couple hours of slowly following the directions, I pulled it out of the garage and with fingers and toe's crossed, it fired right up.
At first I though the idle was too low and it would be cutting out on me when I dropped the prop in the water, but that's not the case. I don't know how accurate the tach is, but its hovering around 750rpms, and not cutting out when I drop the prop in the water. Idles like a Harley sitting at a redlight. There is barely a ripple on the water when i'm idling through the no wake zones now.
Definately can feel an improvement on hole shot. I had me(215), wife and 3 kids(325) with another 100# in gear and it jumped up like an unloaded boat. Speed is about 2mph better than with the stock carb. I'm running it unloaded this weekend to see if I gained anything on the top end. RPM's loaded were easily hitting 4000, anything higher and the speed would drop. I'm running the MudBuddy Big Blade right now, but I'm gonna switch back to the GD 2 blade and see if it improves any.
I still have the stainless stock exhaust right now, but if I keep reading the archives, I'll be ordering a MarshMellow next week.
Also this was the new carb kit with the Black Death Intake.

Re: Installed the Mikuni on my 35GDSD CDI
Another ride sounds great to me. I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to get another 3 or 4 boats like last time.
Top end might not have changed. I'm still around 25 top end, but that might change next week. Suppose to have some headwork done. Shhh, don't tell Briggs.
Also wondering if I'm not being held back a little because of the stock muffler. Also a bunch of the Steel Flex on the bottom of the boat is chipped off and I'm sure thats causing some friction with the water.

Re: Installed the Mikuni on my 35GDSD CDI
Just ordered the MarshMellow from SETX Performance. Sounds like the Double Barrell X may be a little louder than what I want, so I'll just go with the old technology.

As Owen stated, you need a higher flow exhaust than stock to get the full benefits, headwork will chip in and give you more flow and load carrying ability as well.

Re: Installed the Mikuni UPDATE: and finally the Marshmellow
I've had the Marshmellow on for about 2 weeks now, and was finally able to run it this morning. That sucker sounds mean. I finally hit my Rev limiter. Woke the Mikuni up about 200rpms. Had to trim the motor down from its normal setting so the prop would get more bite and not hit the Rev limiter at 3/4 throttle.
New best speed 27.7. Problem is, I was running real light(battery and gas tank), and the boat would porpoise at any speed past 25.5.
Hopefully I'll get to run it loaded down soon.
