 Stump Running.....
Obviously the lakes are WAY low in E. TX this year. I have always gone around stumps, but with my new battleship I'm not so worried about hitting them at 20mph. It makes for an interesting ride though.
You guys that have been running stumps for a while, I'd like to hear what yall's method is of negotiating the minefields of East TX. I dont want to mess my rig up going to fast but if i go slow the high centering gets to be annoying. What do yall do?
I'd hate to go back to a longtail.

 Re: Stump Running.....
I usually try to avoid the stumps, but I have slid my boat over some trees laying out across a bayou near hear. What stumps I have ran across I try to put them on one side of the boat and away from the center and slide over them. A couple of times I got about halfway over a stump and stopped, I just turn the motor and throttle off it. The slick bottom boat really helps.

 Re: Stump Running.....
when i run stumps i kinda take it easy. i usually beat everybody to the ramp so im not usually in a big hurry anyway (and i try not to tear my equipment up). when i had my sd and i would feel a stump comin under the boat id just goose it a little and get on over it then get back out of the throttle.

 Re: Stump Running.....
It's really bad around here. So much so that it's a hassle to go out riding.

 Re: Stump Running.....
You could drive a couple of hours south and ride down here. We like when the water is low, of course no stumps in the marsh.

 Re: Stump Running.....
Just get your boat on step, then trim up as far as you can. Stumps aren't gonna tear that PD up, and you're just gonna tear your hull up slow rolling the stumps we've got here.

 Re: Stump Running.....
yep....i get on step then trim it up almost all the way out the water and roll at around 2800.......but if i can i stay out of them. I busted a brand new rig 3 hrs after slow rolling the stumps of east tx PS..... if you have a tiller setup and a PD dont wrap you thumb around the grip or your thumb will get removed.

 Re: Stump Running.....
You don't hit near as many when you're on step and your entire hull isn't in the water. Either run it, or stay at the house.
yeah ya dont but the 1 ya do are those boat eaten ones

 Re: Stump Running.....
Should have been on the last ride in Wallisville. Going back to Miller Lake was a b@#$h. Lots of submerged trees and limbs. We just took our time and everyone made it without any problems. There are some pics posted somewhere.

 Re: Stump Running.....
Well yeah, avoid the ones you can see as best you can. I'm just saying, these lakes are covered in stumps, I'm not going to ride at idle speeds for five hours to get to my spot.

 Re: Stump Running.....
run it wide open and have a loose grip on the tiller handle. Stumps will knock the tiller handle out of your hand every now and then, but its an easy recorvery and alot better than idling and getting stuck on every other stump.
and wear your kill switch
