Re: WRITE THIS DOWN............ the creek I jump woodies in has been dry all summer, Its a big creek and my grandpa had never seen it dry in all the years he stuck around.

Ill agree with that and even in the past 7-10 year we had some really nice years before katrina but its like something changed in the marsh around here all the grass died and they ducks just moved on. My ol man tells me of times they used to be able to pick the birds they shot and not just have to kill the lucky six that hit the decoys.

I saw a picture for them hunting up near delta national park back in the 70's there was like 9 of them back then and they used to make the trip every year and it was nothing but green heads and wood ducks that they shot, you couldnt find a hen in the picture if you tried.

Re: WRITE THIS DOWN............ I live in florida, we usually don't get birds until 3-4 days before the opener. This year the birds are 3-4 weeks early and its looking real good. In the fresh- the water levels are way down from the summer highs, this helps to expose the vegatation and limits the flooded pastures that most ducks use when the water is high.
The interesting thing is that in early October I was telling my friends that I am seeing more acorns on the ground than the last couple of years combined, and the trees are still dropping them each day! This year in florida we are due for a good season- the last 4 have been pretty bad. |
