Depends on your boat and load

You would get more product specific info on the MB forum.

Post Re: 5500 black death
I have a BD 5500 on a gator trax 1750HD and hit the rev limiter of 4350 quite easily with two people on the boat. Get a GPS and run the engine full throttle while trimming up and down and see if you gain speed. If you gain rpm's and no speed or lose speed, then you're trimmed too high.

On my motor I had a high speed miss fire that I thought was an ignition problem but it turns out it was the rev limiter kicking in.

Your motor is perfectly fine for the 5500, just mess with your trim, different boat hulls will make a tremendous difference and load placement
