 what am i doing wrong?
we have gone duck hunting the last couple days and the same dang thang keeps happining. early morning we will have a couple woods come into our spread. but after its a little brighter we cant get ANYTHING to land in the spread. the first day we had a dozen decoys and today we had 2 dozen and a jerk string. we have plenty of ducks , they just circle and circle and think about comming in but never do.
we are hunting a slough that has a bunch of buckbrush and we have found a couple holes that they have landed in and we are hiddin pretty well. why are the birds not landing? any help is appreciated and were going again in the morning and it would be wonderful if ducks would actually land or get closer in range thanks guys Ray

Re: what am i doing wrong?
That's the story of our lives here, the very few ducks we have seen this month will not draw. We need new dumb ducks, and refuge guys that know how to bush a damn blind and boatway.
Just think long and hard about everything, take a look at things and see if you can find anything wrong. Think the wind over, the cover, the spread, I'm scratching my head at my self too.

Re: what am i doing wrong?
Just what I would do, drop down to 8 or 10 decoys. Set these dekes in pairs a few feet up in the brush with plenty of room between the pairs and a group of three on a jerk rig on the woods edge. http://www.ureaduck.com buy yourself a struttin mallard to stick in the thicket it will really help. just a few quacks after they pass over and no extensive calling.

Re: what am i doing wrong?
Go and get you a baby mojo.... Believe it or not those bad boys work wonders. I was having the same troubles until I broke Dwn and bought one of my own. My brother lives by them and I didn't believe in em until I tried my spread in his hole and didn't kill shiat then tried my same spread in his hole but with his mojo and limited out in an hour or so..... worth a shot they're not but 70 bucks

Re: what am i doing wrong?
any of these spinning wing decoys will suck at the end of the season after they see it.

Re: what am i doing wrong?
Buy the Mojo,it will help some,2 in my .02 will help more. Set them up not far apart from each other, one closer to the water than the other. Towards the end of the season i find they they hurt u more than they help though, cause everybody has one,and they have seen so many of them.

Re: what am i doing wrong?
I think they are already used to the mojo's here, I'm building a mallard machine this week, and am dropping my spread waaaay down, gonna tie the machine and 10 decoys or so. I am realizing I look like every other spread out there, a lifeless cloud of birds all pointing in the same direction, the same distance from the shore and everything. Been watching videos of ducks sitting and feeding and whatnot, I'm gonna try and imitate that. Real birds are all bunched up and active as hell, and I am guilty of doing what everybody else does - birds spaced way apart and lifeless. That's gonna change this week Go type in "Duck flocks" in google, and just spend a few hours swimming through the videos, it's pretty enlightening realizing what you look like, and what you should look like.

Re: what am i doing wrong?
Sounds like the story of my life. 4 decoys and a jerk cord ought to do the trick. Shut up when they get in close and when they turn out give em a little excited feed chatter. If you're consistantly seeing gads then give em what they want, 3 brown decoys and a greenhead off to one side jerk cord in the thick stuff. Most the time (around here I don't know about where y'all are at) the drake mallards will always talk more than the hens especially when they are committed so put that whistle to work. Good luck.
