About 10 minutes after shootin hours this mornin we hear someone hollering, didnt think much but some kids goofin off, but no! when we returned to the ramp at around 10 am my buddy gets a phone call that one of his buddies had been shot, and about that time tha guy that shot parents pulled up, so we jumped back in my boat to go look for them in they area they were, when we got close we heard some guys yellin at us and went their direction and then seen another boat waving us over, we pulled up to them and tranfered the shot guy into my boat, he was in bad shape and had been shot at close range in the back of the neck and head, they had sank ther 12ft boat tryin to get the injured guy into it, we then race for the ramp and we were about in the most remote hard to get to place on the refuge, about 3/4 of the way out we meet a guy in a pro drive rig so we stopped him and transfered him again into tha much faster boat, when we arrived back at the ramp 2 ambulances, game wardens, cops and a helicopter were waiting for him. they then airlifted him to Shreveport and done emergency surgery and from what i have heard so far he is doin good!

Just wanted to share and keep both guys and there families in your prayers!!

if it wasnt for me and the guys with the pro drive, he may not have made it, because the only other boat back there was jus a lil 9hp. its a miracle he made it out, shot at around 6:45 and didnt get to the ramp till about 11:30

Thank heavens for guys like yall. I hope if myself or anybody was ever in that situation there is someone like yall to help out. Yall done a great thing and probably saved that fellas life. Great job and prayers sent.

Some years back, a guy down the road had his loaded gun in the bottom of the boat, and he was standing on the bank pulling the boat up. His dog was all excited and running around in the boat, and stepped on the gun and it shot him in the face and throat. They dug the wad out of his throat, he had shot in his eye and all in his face and neck.


Years and surgeries later, he's blind in one eye and has a horrible raspy, whispery voice. Ya'll be careful out there, keep an eye on them safeties and them guns in a safe direction.

Where was this? I cant find anything on the news about it.

Makes one want to hang it up. Accidents happen but stupidity and arrogance are no accident. I pray he's alright.

Absolute rules to live by, and i mean live by:

Never load gun until shooting time.
Never shoot at birds on my side; if you're in a middle hole blind accept you are screwed
Any activity requiring one to get up, move to boat, move boat, pick up ducks requires unloading everyones gun and I don't give a shit if birds are flying
All shotgun actions remain in open position until load time
Safety in safe positio until you lift gun to shoot; not when ducks are approaching
Wear you life jacket or you don't hunt with me cause I would have to save your life.
Never lean your gun without keeping one hand on it; and if you have to do something like piss unload your gun.

If you follow these rules you and your party will be safe from harm. I am certain that when the report comes out in this accident one of the above rules will have been found to be the cause of this terrible accident.

Mechanical safety
Finger off of trigger until ready to fire

Ifin' I thank I'm gonna cross waters thats over mines head and ruff ... then I'll reach fo the life-jacket ... but I'm bad 'bout not hasslin' with it in 18 inches of water.

An update on his condition, he is doing good and is begining to move his arms and legs and is now responding to voices!

I know me and my buddies will be extra careful after this!

We had a close call this teal season with a kid who hadn't been much, he shot inches over my friends head when a group buzzed in.

I will make somebody unload a gun over stupid stuff in a hurry in my boat!

Here is a fellow hunter in vermillion parish that was invalid in a hunting accident, but he didn't make it. Saw it on KATC at 5, but hadnt looked it up on their website yet.

prayers sent glad he is doing ok cause my uncle wasn't so lucky he was killed on lake mary in missisippi 10 years ago he was an avid duck hunter and had a new born when it happened. guys all I can say is be careful make some rules and landmarks of where not to swing past and remind each other every morning having it in your mind could save a buddy or a family members life be safe guys
